Anybody have one of those calculators or software that will estimate velocity? I'm trying to get an idea how fast a 350 rem mag is in a 15" pistol barrel..... the load is 56 grains of Varget, win large rifle primer, 225 grain Nosler BT, OAL 3.1"
Thanks, Mark

Gonhuntin, are you posting on the single shot pistols forum? Do you know about the shooting clinic Don Bower's putting on in NE this July? Boy that 350 would be fun to see at the clinic.

Well, DUH!.....you think if I HAD a chrony that I'd be asking for an estimate?????? Sheesh!

Yes, I post on the SSP forum.....Ernie has been after me to come to the clinic........I'd like to go but I'm saving my pennies for an antelope hunt in Sept.......

My Load From A Disk program wants net case capacity(in grains of water), and barrel length to base of bullet, for it's calcalationin'. If you will PM these to me I'll run it. But be forewarned, so far, I haven't found it to be too realistic..........Bug.

Hey Mark, check out Dave Quick's site for a down and dirty way to estimate velocity. I been meanin' to try it but haven't. Maybe you can test it out and let me know the results.

Don't be too hard on Todd, there really isn't any true way to estimate muzzle vel. There are just too many variables, barrels, chambers, bullets, cases, see what I mean. Your est. could easily be off 100fps no matter what method you use. You might as well look @ a reloading manual & deduct the 30fps per inch of bbl. for your load. This is probably as good as anything else w/o a crony.

Like on the site Desert Ram suggested, with a known BC for a given bullet, an accurate 100 yard zero, puttin some into a target at 300 yards from a "stable" rest will tell the tale quite close.
Best I could suggest. I use it all the time to test for the actual BC when using the Oehler, usually out to 500 yards though. I use a 8 foot piece of plywood standing on end and aim at the very top edge with it already zeroed at 100 yards. 5 shots and measure down to the center and adjust to match it to the programs prediction.
That's what I thought, there is no real way to guesstimate the speed. Before I got my chrony, I had a bunch of loads to try in various calibers, and wrote down my guess at their speed (from load data, etc.) and then compared that to my results. I was way off, sometimes by 200-300 fps. It would be even tougher to try guess with a stunted tube.
