While trying to patiently wait for the stock for my Montana Rifle Co. barreled action in .358 Win, I am going to load up some rounds. From perusing several loading manuals, it seems that IMR-3031 and IMR-4064 work well, along with powders like BLC-2, H-335 and W-748. I have loaded up 50 with 250 gr Hornady Spire Points over 42.5 gr of W-748. I think I would like a temperature stable powder, though. Since Varget is close to IMR-4064, has anyone tried it in the .358 Win?

What powders have worked best for you with 225 or 250 gr bullets?

I haven't used IMR4064 in the .358, but the rest you mentioned all do well, and about the same. IMR4895 and RX12 work well, I wonder about RX10 but haven't tried it. None of my loads used anything lighter that 225 gr bullets. RX15 was a dud.

My favorite is H335, Varget was very accurate but the velocity was down about 50 fps.

Our average temps are fairly moderate here - I do my load work-up in the summer and have noticed no change in poi during winter hunting. One bad thing about Accurate is that they source their powders from all over the world and have been known to change manufactors without notice.

I tried AA 2015 in the 358 Win and got excessive pressure. Either the powder was made wrong or the data was wrong. I flushed it.

The case capacity is not all that large with long bullets so a dense powder may be best.

With 250 gr bullets, AA 2520 had no peer.
