Does any know what the 7x57 COL would be with a 175gn SP bullet seated to the neck/sholder junction of case would be?

IMR shows a 160gn load with a COL of 3.250.
So based on this. A 175gn would be even longer, I would guess.

The reason for asking this is to help decide on a intermedite or standard action for the 7x57.

It will be used with 175gn bullets seated out some.No deeper than base of neck.

Well I show a 175 Hornady FBSP to be 1.32" My nosler manual shows a case length of 2.235 and neck of .369" Take the neck off the 1.32" leaves .951" sticking out of the case or 3.186" OAL with the bullet at the base of the neck.

A 160 gr BT ends up being about the same length. My wifes 7x57 is set up with about 1 cal in the neck. With a 140 BT it is right at 3.2" But her action is a Daly.

As usual just my $.02

Thank you ramrod,

Thats about what I was thinking. May as well go with a standatd lenght 98 instead of an intermedite one.

It should be able to be loaded to fit the magazine of a standard action quite comfortably.

Allen,
I will have to check my books in the shop and get back to you. I do recall the 160 gr. Nosler and Trophy bonded loads had and OAl of 3.290.

All my 7x57s were long throated to seat a 175 gr. Nosler to the cannalure, and the 160 were half way to the cannalure or there abouts.'

The Brno 21 and 22 are also seated in that manner, I used them as a guide.

It sure puts the 7x57 on a different level of performance, better than a .280 in fact, but only with H-414.

I had worked up a load for her rifle with 414. It shot sub moa everyday of the week. Around 47 grs I believe. Higher and they opened up. Well finally ran it over my Chrono and the darn thing was less than 2500fps. So tried Imr 4350 and RL 19. Accurace load with the IMR again was low velocity. With the RL 19 it is 2795. Last weekend her first 3 shots were .375 next 2 opened it all the way up to just under .75". While not exactly my 280 velocity not bad for a 22" factory Daly barreled action.

Thanks for the help guys.

Based on these measurements a standard length M98 action is the way to go.

Some 414 and a Woodleigh 175gn bullet should be the ticket!
