I scored some Barnes bullets for plenty cheep but they have been coated with moly and I can't say I am wild about the stuff. Has any one found a miracle way to get this stuff off bullets?

What you cannot wash off with automotive paint thinner must be abraded off. It is not worth the trouble as the only problem with moly is the excess amount that is sometimes applied. Wash them and shoot them and your rifle will not know the difference. Moly is getting a bad rap because every Tom Dick and Harry is using it on bullets and two of them have no clue.

I've never done it but try throwing them in your vibratory case polisher and see what comes out. I opened an old box of bullets once that seemed to have discolored from moisture and threw them in the case polisher and they turned out great.

If you're talking about the factory blue stuff on those Barnes bullets, it's not moly.

No -- This is not the factory stuff. I got a box of Barnes X and a box of Kodiak "bonded" 30 caliber, that had been home coated. I figgured ten bucks for the bunch was worth playing with any way! Might put them up on Ebay as is!

I disliked the moly on my first box of Failsafes so in to the tumbler they went for a couple hours. Most of it comes off. For me, they actually shoot better. Thinking back, they were not Fialsafes but CT partitions. I do think they were moly?

The first Failsafes were coated with Lubalox.

What is the Lubalox, and is it anything I need to worry about? I just bought a half dozen boxes of CT 375 300 grain failsafes? Seems like the coating comes off on my hands and shirt. Does it differ from moly? Should I be concerned about it building up in my barrel?

Thanks,
Keith

I did a google search of lubalox, and the very first link was this one from Nosler:

Are Lubalox and Moly the same?

NO, Lubalox (CT Ballistic Tip) is an oxide-based coating, which reduces fouling and allows more shooting between cleanings, also Lubalox does not buildup in the barrel and requires only normal cleaning procedures. Moly (CT Fail Safe & Partition Gold) is a molybdenum disulfide coating which reduces fouling and friction. Moly requires a barrel be conditioned by shooting several rounds after cleaning and special cleaning procedures. Accuracy with non-coated bullets may not be up to par in a Moly conditioned barrel.
