I've got 3 different 223s. A 16" Contender with a 4X scope, a NEF Superlight 3-9X40 scope, and a Savage 10FPwith a 3-9X40 (and thinking of a 4-12X40). I neck size only so need to keep the ammo for these apart(especially the Savage, as I already had a stuck bullet in the chamber using the NEF neck sized ammo accidently). I was going to use different brass and different bullets to identify the rounds at a glance.

Contender - 40 gr Nosler BTs, with Win Nickle Brass.

NEF - 50 gr Sierra Blitz, with LC Brass.

Savage - Hornady 55 gr V Max with Win regular Brass.

I thought the lighter bullets with the shortest range weapon and the heaviest bullets with the longest range weapon. Any holes in this set up? Thoughts, ideas, input?

Thanks
Dave

...sounds like a plan...I do similar with my 223 bolt gun and gas gun.....and use molly bullets in the bolt and plain in the gas AR......IF one doesn't give you the accuracy you want ,try another bullet weight and don't get set on the exact bullet for gun untill they tell you what they like......with the different brass you could use the same bullets in any/all of them as the brass is what will tell you for which gun they need to be loaded for and then the seating depth for that gun with any of the bullets is all you need to track.......it's "nice" to have such problems to work out...lol....good luck and good shooting and loading!!

I do it a little different, just for another option. I have 3 .223s and 2 .22-250s, so have similar "keep 'em separate" problems. What I do is start with new or once-fired brass, full length size it all the first time, trim to length, turn the necks, clean the flashholes, and sort by weight. Once that is done, I put the cases into either 20- or 50-round boxes, with labels clearly numbered. Example: for the Ruger 1V all the brass is in boxes numbered 1V-01, 1V-02, etc. For the Ruger 77VT, it's numbered 77VT-01, 77VT-02, etc. Thus all the brass is clearly marked which rifle it's for and never leaves its original box. I also have an Excel spreadsheet where I keep track of everything that happens with each particular lot. This can also be done on 3x5 cards. Sounds like a lot of work, but once it's set up, not much trouble and the info it gives you is worth the effort. With this system, I can load any bullet I want for any rifle because I don't use the bullet as part of the identifying process.

Hope that makes sense.

Thanks for the ideas guys. I've already reloaded for all three, and I know the Savage likes the V Max, and that the NEF likes the Blitz. The only one not already proved is the BTs in the Contender. I think they'll work just fine, if it doesn't the Sierra 53 gr MK is very good in the Contender. I'm really amazed at the accuracy of the Contender. I've only had it a couple of months and it is really a joy to shoot. I need to get dies for the 30-30 barrel, although I doubt I'll be shooting the 30-30 enough to make reloading pay. Only once a year shooting during deer season and maybe a little practice here and there. I'm looking for a 357 Mag barrel for it also, and then next will likely be a 17 HMR barrel. Oh, what a disease I got!!!!

Thanks again!
Dave

I might take a different approach Dave......full length size everything , and use LC brass and 50 or 40 gr V-Max and hunt for a powder charge that would work in all the guns.....it all depends on what you want to do , but I like to keep things simple ......
