Hello,

Last week I shot my Beta Chrony and in market to get another one, what kind do you guys use ?

I never had any problems with mine except not having the remote screen but was thinking about the PACT but keep finding bad reviews from people who bought one like at Cabela's.

I had a Shooting Chrony for years. Never shot it but the jointed skyscreens cracked twice and the jointed leg connections got too loose to use. It was a little temperamental and would go periods where it wouldn't register except "ERR" which I suppose means error. Then right in the middle of a range session all the readings for the different guns would go down 150 fps. The display was hard to read from a distance, sometimes I had to get up off the bench and get a different angle to read it. Not a confidence inspirer.

There was a sale on the Pro Chrono

for $79.99 and I got one. The opening is larger so it is easier to set up, the skyscreens and legs are one piece and the display is large enough to be seen from 15 to 20 feet away.

It hasn't missed a reading yet! thumb

Woods nailed it, can't be beat for the price. (knock on wood) I've never had a bit of trouble out of my ProChrono in the last few years of using it. It works great and has the exact features I need.

Chrony will take your shot up one in on trade, they don't care if you ran over it with a semi! Interesting thing I had a Beta chrony for a dozen or so years, not a problem with it other than letting battery run low, or trying to use it when there isn't enough light, and I SHOT it with a cap and ball revolver, I sent it in and they gave me a new one for 50.00IIRC. Check the paperwork that came with your chrono.
One interseting thing about Chrony, make sure they are unfolded completely flat or they will register higher velocities- shorter distance between the screens. I encountered this at the local range, a guy was shooting a 340 Weatherby with handloaded 250 grainers@3200???, I walked over and watched everybody ohing-awhing, asked if he wanted to shoot a couple over mine as I surmised something was wrong, he said no need to he had checked his against another, seemed irate at me. I knew all the guys standing around watching, but didn't know the shooter-someone new, finally he had enough of us discussing his velocity and decided to take his basketball and leave, being the nice guy I am I walked out to help him take down his Chrony, then I noticed a business card taped to the bottom of it, between the joint where it unfolds, I exclaimed there is the problem so the other 3 guys heard and saw. He instantly got mad, said I didn't know shit, that was put there to calibrate it when he checked it against another chrono!!!!!! The whole thing was a BS setup from the start! He stomped off, loaded his shit and spun a little gravel, I have never seen the guy since.

I have the Shooting Chrony F-1 Master with the remote readout, works great except for the 3-pc sky screens didn't fit together well, so I super glued them into 1-pc, very happy with them now.

I have the blue one. The only problems I have with it is that it will give me the ERR code a lot and sometimes it will not start a string. I think the instructions are cryptic for setting it up to record shots, and the small type in the manual doesn't help.

I shot two shooting Chronys.

I shot one Pro Chrono and have one left.

The Pro Chrono triggers better. Much better. I can wave my hand over it, and it tells me how fast my hand went.

if it is the Shooting Chrony Beta... contact the manufacturer.. they have an exchange program...discounted...

I have fired thousands of rounds over mine and have never put a bullet hole in it...some of you guys must either be cross eyed or trying to shoot thru it with 24 to 36 power scopes...

thanks for replies,

I am going to try the PACT XP and see how it goes, I will probally get the chrony beta traded in later for another.

seafire2, Not totally blind but was my fault, shooting 44mag test load and was expecting to see around 1,000fps and it showed me 344fps, so I thought maybe I aimed to hi and with arc of bullet it gave me bad reading so I back up a little and lowered my aim and nailed it

I was using a borrowed CHRONY the other day and also started to get lots of ERR just when I needed the data most!

If it wasn't borrowed I WOULD have shot it hammering

My Chrony has served me well up until today when I put a 10.75mm bullet through it.

So don´t buy an expensive one...

Friend of mine has had a lot of trouble with his PACT. Won't register at all much of the time. Sent it back to the factory and they said it's alright, but it isn't, because we set it up today and shot some .38's and my .375 through it and got no readings, regardless of the light, which was uniformly good. I wouldn't buy one.
