I have brass, dies and bullets on order to load some 6.5X50 Jap rounds. I have 4 manuals with load information also. Will be using Hornady 140 grain bullets. Anyone load for this round and have any idea what powder works best. Just looking for something that shoots well -don't care about maxing out the velocity.

The gun is type 38 with 19.5" barrel. A WWII bring back that still has the mum on the receiver.

How valuable is valuable.

It is in fairly good shape. Still has the bolt cover. Does not have the cleaning rod or sling.

I'm not sure how to read the numbers, but it does not appear that the bolt number matches the receiver.

Are you sure it's a 38? Sounds a bit short like a Type 44. Does it have the fold under spike bayonette?

The gun belongs to my father-in -law. He asked me to check it out and find some ammo. He has fired the gun years ago.

According to the markings on the reciever it is a type 38 built in the Nagoya Arsenal with a series 4 mark.

It does have a bayonet with it, but it does not fold back, it detaches.

I just measured the barrel and it actually 19" from closed bolt face to muzzle. The bore measures ( with cheap calipers) about .265 as best I can measure.

I found the data in Lyman's manual was too hot in mine. I don't recall the load I settled on but was using H-380 and the 129 grain Hornady. The amount of powder was the minimum in the Lyman manual, and middle of the listing in the Hornady. The load was very accurate, in my rifle, and I had it rechambered to .260 Remington.
