about the only thing I can find out is their name and address..

Pentagon Safes

I'd like to buy one of their large safes but I'd like an outside opinion before I

This is the first that I've heard of them, and they have my attention. I like the size cost comparision. I'm sure there as good, or better than most out there. I like the 100 gun model. Bill T.

Looks high on marketing and low on facts. Safes are fire rated as class 1, 2 and 3 for the number of hours they will resist getting 350 F inside with I think 2000 F outside. The same safe has to resist falling thru one floor to a basement.

The other test I know of is the TL test for tool resistance. There are TL 15's and 30's and maybe more. I have two class 11 safes and a TL15.

Safes for the "Pentagon", CIA, DIA etc are made by Hamilton among others.

Like I said it's a lot of sell. Find out what the real test specs are.

The problem is I would have to hock my house to afford a TL rated safe (of that size) - I don't expect the safe to resist entry from someone who knows what they are doing, not for long anyway - the fire ratings are the same way, most (gun)safes use drywall for liners right? When the drywall releases water vapor at 300d into the safe (this is the way I understand it works?) your guns would be trashed anyway, yes?

I guess what I'm saying is - should it keep the honest people out, deter uninformed crooks, and handle a minor house fire if its put out in 20 minutes?

I was quoted a price of $2300 for a 72x42x28 (US-2)with delivery and options.

I paid $500 delivered for my used Hamilton TL15 safe! Still interested?

Call up a safe dealer or locksmith and go see what they have. Mine was delivered and set in place in the garage for that price. It weighs 2200 lbs. I could have got two of them for $900 delivered. This safe is used and some of the paint is scratched on the outside. It's made from 1" thick steel except the door is 1.5" thick.

But any safe is way better than none.

That is a deal on a used safe. I bought a new Browning fireproof 15 gun model about 3 years ago. I think it was almost 1800. Of course now I wish I had gotten a bigger one.

If I could have found one at that price I would have bought two - closest dealer is a long haul from here. What size was it?

There are three safe dealers in Redmond, OR! and more in Bend!.

This safe is 4'H, 3'W and 2'D so it's only 46" high inside but has enough room for most guns. I have longer ones in another safe.

Heavy sucker for that size huh? The places you mentions have brochures only, well one has some small used safes but were talking 1930's vintage.

I went and ordered the safe I listed above, hopefully it will fit my needs.
