Got two pounds of Green Dot.. Bought it for 45 Long Colt. I use Accurate 2, which I like for 9mm and 38 Special target shooting. Where can I get some good load data to work up some rounds with Green Dot in 38 Special and 9mm. I know it can be done but my Lee Reloading book doesn't have it. Who has used this in 9mm and/or 38 Special. Just want to work up target ammo with it.

Alliant doesn't show loads on their site for any pistol cartridges other than 44 Mag, 45 Colt, and 45 ACP. http://www.alliantpowder.com/r...wder.aspx?powderid=5 Speer, Sierra, Lyman, Hornady, Hodgdon have reliable reloading data. You won't find it on so and so's web page.

I have a 2004 Alliant powder guide that has green dot loads for those 2 plus almost very other pistol cartridge out there at that time. Only few do not have green dot loads. post what bullet weights and bullets you plan on using and I well get you the loads.

I don't keep my loading manuals at my home but I would suggest that any data for Red Dot will be OK with Green Dot. This is because the origins of the powder are that it was made as a 'slower' version of Red Dot to deal with a change in either cases or wads (I don't recall which) from paper to plastic or vice-versa) in shot gun loadings. I will have a look tomorrow if it helps in my old Speer and Lyman books.

As promised, this from Speer #10 Manual: 9mm Luger - 4" Barrel S & W Model 39 125 LEAD ROUND NOSE 4.2 Green Dot = 990fps 3.8 Green Dot = 869fps 38 S & W (NOT SPECIAL BUT "OLD" 38 S & W) - 4" Barrel: 148 LEAD DOUBLE ENDED WADCUTTER 3.1 Green Dot = 746fps 2.8 Green Dot = 669fps 38 S & W (NOT SPECIAL BUT "OLD" 38 S & W) - 4" Barrel: 158 LEAD ROUND NOSE or SEMI WADCUTTER (KEITH TYPE) 2.8 Green Dot = 719fps 2.5 Green Dot = 648fps Certainly the loads for the "old" .38 S & W should be safe enough in your .38 S & W Special. Hope it helps! I'll see if I can find my Lyman Manual too.

Hello again. I have looked in my Lyman 47th Manual and there is NO DATA for Green Dot in .38 S & W Special for any type or weight of bullet. Some stuff for 9mm Parabellum/Luge however: 9mm Parabellum/Luger - 4" Barrel: Lyman 358345 115 grain Lead Semi Wadcutter 4.0 Green Dot = 1030fps = 24,000 CUP 5.0 Green Dot = 1200fps = 32,500 CUP 9mm Parabellum/Luger - 4" Barrel: Lyman 356402 121 grain Lead Cone Point 3.9 Green Dot = 970fps = 22,200 CUP 4.8 Green Dot = 1165fps = 32,500 CUP 9mm Parabellum/Luger - 4" Barrel: Lyman 356242 121 grain Lead Round Nose 3.5 Green Dot = 919fps = 26,200 CUP 4.4 Green Dot = 1152fps = 32,800 CUP Bullet 356402 at OAL of 1.110" and bullet 356242 at OAL of 1.065" were the "classic" Lyman bullet mould designs for a generation of 9mm Parabellum/Luger reloaders in the 1980s!

Thanks for the info. I went to the range today. Shoot some 38 Special with my Ruger LCR and some 9mm with a Springfield XD subcompact. Used ammo I had reloaded with Green Dot. Was very happy with the results. Think I might be a fan.

I used some Green Dot about 20+ years ago when I first started reloading . I had plenty on hand as I used it for 12ga loads. Well, I moved on to others powders. Fast forward to this year. I ran low on Unique for light loads for my 357 and 44 mags. I read the post listed above at Castloads. I remembered about using Green Dot and I still have 12 lbs on hand. I worked up some loads that turned out to be some of my most accurate loads I've shot lately. It will be a long time before I buy anymore Unique for general cast loads. My 8lb keg is still for my 12ga loads. My 4 lb keg is set aside for my pistol loads now.

I agree I was surprised by Green Dot. Worked up some loads for both 38 Special and 9mm. Have to take your time and do it right but it is good..
