I recently acquired a 1886 winchester 40-65 lever action. Does anyone know where I can find information about this caliber? I am interested in finding brass, dies and reloading data. Thanks for any assistance you might be able to provide.

It was discontinued in 1935.

You can form brass by using 45-70 brass.

260 grain lead bullet:
23.0 grains of IMR-4198
44.0 grains of IMR-3031
65.0 grains of black powder

You can buy brass from starline and buffaloe arms they also have dies, or you can get the cowboy dies from lyman, this is a great round about the same as the 40-82 that was also offered in the 86
get Mike Ventireno's book he covers all kinds of starting loads. Also contact the Single Shot Express site they love this round in the big singles.
