Words can't describe my feelings as my custom 7x57 rifle slipped from my fingers and bounced not once, not twice but three times on the hard clay track. It didn't bounce on the rifle but on the A$2,400 Zeiss Diavari scope.

After a quick change into clean underwear it was off to the range to check zero. I have a load of 43 grains 2209 (H4350) for 175 grain projectiles for 2,340 fps (chrono'd). With a new box of Woodleigh 175 PPSN's ( SD .310 BC .510 ) I loaded some up and went to the range.

Shots 1,2 and 3 were at 100 yards with shot 1 being from a cold clean barrel. I moved the scope one click ( 1cm ) right and the target out to 200 yards. Shots 4,5 and 6 were on the money. Scope and rifle survived.

Successes for me with Woodleighs has been very rewarding. The .308 165 PPSN being a favourite with excellent results on plains game in my .308W and the rest of the box in a good mates .300 WSM on Namibian PG and deer. Accuracy has been excellent with the 286 and 320 woodleighs in my 9.3 but I can't get 7mm 140 or 160 PPSN's to shoot consistantly in my long throated 7x57. The 6.5mm 140 PPSN has been a lazer ray in my .264WM and will get used on large game soon.

9.3x62 with 320 RNSP. 264WM with 140 PPSN. 7x57 with 175 PPSN.

No brand of projectile will work in every rifle or calibre but the positives outway the negatives and from now on I will be useing Woodleighs wherever possible.

Good to hear that your gear survived...

I hope to see a roe deer tomorrow morning when the season starts - I probably will have my Remington 700 Titanium in .270 Win with me - fed with 130 grs Woodleig PP - with which I shot 4 pigs and 1 roe last year - they performed very very well! (drop on the spot for the pigs, 50m run for the roe deer - with no damage to the meat other then a hole through them...)

life is too short for not having the best equipment You could buy...

My .338wm and 250gr Woodleigh PPSN took 5 Impala and a Blue wildebeest or Gnu like some know them. All one shot kills none moved more than 10 yards. The load I've settled on gave me 0.7" 3 shot groups at 100m at 2400ft/s. Probably 250-300ft/s below max, but this was a bushveld hunt and ranges exceeding 150m was probably not going to happen.

Very happy with the terminal ballistics as well, although all but one exited and that one was found at the base of the tail after penetrating and shattering the full length of the spine on a big Impala ram standing face on at 140m. Yet almost no meat damage to the fillets.

Great bullets for all in Africa!!!

Cheers
Johan

In my 35 Whelen (Ruger M77) the 250 grn Woodleigh RN has become the standard bullet.
Accurate and deadly.

I use this rifle for red deer and it is a real hammer!
Usually the fall where they stand, and meat damage is almost nil.
