I will be using my 257 roberts for mule deer hunting this fall and was wondering what a good bullet would be. At this point I have plenty of barnes triples in 100 gr. and sierra patritions in 117 gr. would one of these work or should I get something else by the way looking at 250 to 350 yard shots.

fishingUsing the .257 roberts I've taken a number of mule deer and always used conventional cup and core bullets mostly between 100 and 120gr. I say mostly because I have used reduced loads with 87 gr. bullets.Never had a bullet performance problem with the .257 but than it was never loaded super hot. popcornroger

I've taken a number of mulies with my 257 bob and 100 gr Hornady spire point and Nosler Partitions loaded at +P velocities (the Hornadys were more accurate in my M70 Fwt) Would think any of the premium bullets should work quite well. If you want less recoil for yourself, or if a small person is going to use the rifle, load at standard velocity.

This one dropped DRT with a M-70 FWT in .257 Roberts and a single 100 grain interlock!

One of the beautiful things about this one is it requires nothing special. I have used a lot of Hornady Interlocks.

When did Sierra come out with a partition? j/k

The .257 Ackley version did exceptional work at 350 yards and beyond with the Trophy Bonded Bearclaw 115 grain.

120 grain Nosler Partitions drove lengthwise through Impala, and 117 Sierra SP showed excellent accuracy as would be expected. Then came the 110 Accubond my now favorite .257 bullet.
