Thinking of some 350 Barnes XLC loads to make my Lott a bit more versitile for plains game while DG hunting. Anyone have a load they've had success with. My rifle is a Ruger model 77 action that has been customized, but still has the original Ruger barrel. Thanks all.

Are they still making the XLC? For what its worth I use 69 grains of H4198 in my .458 Win Mag under the 350 grain TSX and get 2500 fps. Pressure appears to be very mild and 1" groups are quite common. I'm not sure if its for plainsgame, practice or just light recoil plinking, but they do seem to go through paper like it isn't even there. I quizzed up Barnes on their suitability for water-buffalo and got a "go for it". I'm thinking of popping a buff or two with them. One thing I've noticed is that for all the people that say they wouldn't hesitate to do just that, there seems to be a real absence of those that actually claim to have done it.

No, they don't still make the XLC and I was told by someone at Barnes they'll never make them again. They were last made several years ago but an occasional box still makes it to the shelves in gun stores. To bad, because they looked cool and I liked them. At least I managed to accumulate a lifetime supply of the 7mm version. Having used the XLC in several cartridges, I can tell you to use the TSX data to start but you will likely be able to push the load a little beyond TSX date. If you happen to find XLCs, I do have an older Barnes manual I can dig out for date if you'll PM me.

Opps. I did mean TSX, but I suppose it wouldn't make much difference.
