I am looking to make a load that makes low noise compared to regular loads. Right now I have my 260 Remington set up with the 107 gr. Sierra @ 2860 fps, and my 7saum loaded with 120 gr. HP's @ 3250 fps. I'd like to make a handload that creates less of a disturbance for when I hunt coyotes in more populated areas. I do not have access to a smaller 22 centerfire, and I do not want to use a 22 WMR or a 22 lr. Now, I have a 26" 7mm Rem Mag that is getting little use lately, and a 22" barreled 30-06. With a powder like SR4759 or AA5744, and light for caliber hollow points, with muzzle velocities of around 2100 fps, I should be able to make a fairly quiet, lethal round for shots inside 100 yards or so. I am sorta leaning towards the 7mm Mag with a 120 gr. HP and the 30-06 loaded with the 110 gr. V-Max. Any thoughts, tips, or suggestions?? Any comments would be much appreciatted. I have never really loaded much with these reduced load powders, what kind of primer should I use, and what do I use for a filler to keep the powder up against the primer for consistent ignition. Thanks in advance.

I have used IMR 4759 with standard primers with great satisfaction. If you have a powder with burning rate around that of 4198 try that before buying new powder. Even 3031 and 4895 will go quite light. There are youth loads at Hodgdon that are around 2100 fps also. Skip the fillers for now until you try the loads without them. If your shooting in the field try very hard to get it over with one shot. I believe that people do not identify a single noise as a gunshot right off. A second shot however and they do and also confirm the direction. If your shooting out of the window of your house then consider some non attached silencer which may be legal there. Ken Waters made one up from chicken wire and insulation. There was a discussion of this on 24hr.

16gr of Unique gives me 2230 fps from my 26" 30-06 with 110gr speer varminter hollow points. Groups averaged 2 moa. Very low noise/blast. Your bullet will probably group much better. MM
