Guys: Looking at the loads and velocities that have been posted here, it shows how underloaded factory stuff for the 35 Whelen really is. Of course it always takes handloaders/experimenters to really bring out the best in any cartridge. In some of the early, 1973 manuals, they have Whelen loading data that shows as much as 58 grains of 4064 with a 250 grain bullet. That seems pretty hot to me, but some people shot it. Jerry

I've had really good luck with 250gr Hornady RN w/ Varget. and 225gr Sierra SBT w/ H322.

My .35 Whelen is in an FN Mauser action with a 23" Douglas barrel. I get +/-2700 fps with 58-59 gr of RL15 and 225 gr Nosler Partitions and 2625 with 57 gr of RL15 and 250 gr Hornady spitzers.
