Well I got the new savage 112 223 all together and I am gonna start putting together bullets tomorrow morning. Anyone have any suggestions for 55 grain FMJs and varget, IMR 4895, or IMR 4064. These are the powders I have. I dont think 4064 will work, Just thought I would mention it. i have the reloading data, Just thought i would drop a hint and see if anyone had good luck with any of these and powders and amount just to get a good starting point. Thanks Most people are link slinkies, Basically useless but fun to push down the stairs.

I think you will be better off with 4198 or Benchmark.

The .223 will digest a lot of different powders nicely. My personal favorite has been BL-C(2) but I've also used Varget. The best velocity I've ever achieved has been with varget however. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." Varget and 4064 burn at the same rate while 4895 is slightly faster. Shooting is FUN, winning is MORE fun but shooting IS fun.

I have all the powders you mentioned on my bench also but when I started working up loads for my 112 I tried 1lb of H335, it shot so good I bought a 8lb keg.It shoots 1/2moa 55gr VMAX. I don't remember the charge wt.

My M70 HV does very well with 25.5 gr Varget and the 55 gr Nosler BT. Acually it does well with most heavy bullets in this rifle.-up to the 69 gr Match King- I haven`t tried IMR 4895 but Hodgdens under the Hornady 52gr HP match gives me my best accuracy. The powder for top velocity in my rifle though is W748. ------------------------------------ The trouble with the Internet is that it's replacing masturbation as a leisure activity. ~Patrick Murray "Why shouldn`t truth be stranger then fiction? Varget From 22.8 grains to 27.8 grains Remington 7-1/2 Primer IMR-4895 From 22.7 grains to 27.5 grains Remington 7-1/2 Primer IMR-4064 From 23.0 grains to 26.5 grains Remington 7-1/2 Primer That being said, I found that I liked the following the best: X-Terminator From 22.7 grains to 25.3 grains Remington 7-1/2 Primer

Thanks for all the info. i have alot of data just thought I would try other peoples magic loads and see who they performed in my rifle. I noticed alot of people use federal primers. I have access to CCI locally. Do they make a big difference? Hope this isnt a dumb question Most people are link slinkies, Basically useless but fun to push down the stairs.

Like I have said before.. I think it is much harder to find a bad powder for a 223 than it is find a good powder for it.... From the burn speed of H 380 on down, everything seems to work quite well in it..... If you are loading heavier bullets than 60 grains, I do have to give the accuracy thumbs up to Varget, IMR 4895 and IMR 4064, and H 380..... BLC2 has proven to be the most accurate with cheap 55 grain bulk FMJs in all of my 223s..... good luck, cheers seafire

Gunz, Don't know exactly what FMJ you are using but you may want to try another bullet if you don't get the results you expect. The only thing I have found consistent about FMJs is that they give consistently poor accuracy. For instance: I have tried several different FMJs in my AR and all of them are at about 1.25 inchs (100 yds) with an occasional flyer. The same gun with Sierra or Nosler 55gr will give me half inch with no flyers. Nice and cheap but I wouldn't use them to set any accuracy or loading benchmarks. I am just using them to get the rifle sighted in and to play with different powders. I am just at the starting point right now. I have purchased other 22 caliber bullets, Just waiting for them to show up. I put a few together. I have 10 with 25 grains of varget and 10 with 25C grains of 4064. I am gonna get out there tonight after work and put a fwew together with 4895 and see. i have also ordered some Ramshot tac powder to try out. I will kepp ya posted when i get to go try it out. I have had my best results with 24.5 gr Varget over a 55gr Nosler BT. PDHunter is right, I wasn't able to get consistent results with the cheaper FMJ's. Nosler sells the 55 grain BT's in 250 ct. boxes that will save you a few cents. If you're gonna roll your own, you might as well make em the best. Save the FMJ's for the AR.

IMR4895 start 25.0gr (~3000fps) Max 26.8 (~3200fps) IMR4064 start 24.5gr (~2850fps) Max 26.5gr (~3150fps) Varget Start 23.0gr (~2800fps) Max 25.0gt (~3050fps) My propellant choice for the 223Rem is either Benchmark which seems more consistant across a broad range of temperatures and is faster (by 200fps) than my other favorite 223 propellant, RL7. I think RL10 has the potential to be even better than RL7 but I haven't tried it yet. Benchmark Start 23.0gr (~3050fps) Max25.0gr (~3300fps) AllanD If I provoke you into thinking then I've done my good deed for the day!
