oldHere's the scope:These were all 9 shot groups!
This wasn't a brag but an indication of what was done when trying to make a silk purse out of a sows ear.
Roll EyesThe barrel was an inexpensive, uncleaned Shaw bull that I screwed onto a Stevens Mod. 200 with a 5 pound trigger and a Tupper ware stock.
popcornThe scope was a $58.00 9 to 24 Truglow using low cost Weaver rings and bases.
fishingThe rests are a rug covered home made front with rice bag rear.
The shooter is a 78 year old doddering old fart.

The cases were made from 7.62 x 39 nny brass whose head diameter had to be reduced about .004" and whose necks had to be turned down to fit the rifle chamber.
holycowThe primers were CCI #34s which is a military large rifle high impact type.
shockerThe powders were mil.surplus except the Acc2520
tu2THE BULLET was a 52 grain FB-HP Berger This was the only thing in this scenario dedicated to accuracy.
Big Grin The range was not 50 feet but was 50 yds.Cuts down on the walking.
Whistling The first load was 24 gr. of DP 74 and yielded 2800 fps. All other loads were around 3300 fps. and were close to max. with these reformed cases.

FYI Depending on manufacturer the head diameter of 7.62x39 cases can vary as much as .007".

Fun experiment!Thanks again VD beerroger

I've had my Savage "Police Sniper" rifle in .22 PPC for a long time. I didn't think too much of the cartridge until I took it to the range for the first time and fired it at 600 yards. The Wildcat .220 Russian is very accurate.
I was invited to a long range Prairie Dog hunt a few years back and I was able to make the longest shot of any of my Varmint rifles.
A Leica Laser Range finder showed the shot was 780 yards. And that was in a 15 mph cross wind.
Ever since then I have had much respect for the little cartridge and followed up with it's big brother, the 6.5 Grendel.
While I've never shot the 6mmPPC,I have sen targets shot using this cartridge and it too is very impressive on paper.

I think a very large number of Bench Rest competition shooters would agree with you. beerroger

That is the very bullet I used to set my all time shooting record......a full ten shots into a 3/8" group at 100 yards.....

Nothing I've ever used has come close to matching that record.....nor have I been able to duplicate the group.....indicating a small amount of luck.
