I have decided to do a few reviews of reloading and shooting equipment and post them on my website. There seems to be so little information available about some equipment that we are buying in the dark. Since most of the time when you buy something you want definitive information on it, I think we need some place to look for it. If anyone wants to help with reviews of equipment you've used please email me. Also, my views and opinions are my own and not bought and paid for by advertising or magazine companies. You can periodically check out the new reviews at http://webpages.charter.net/bchannell and follow the reviews links. The first review is of the Dillon D-Terminator 2 digital scale. Please let me know what you think. Bob

I love unbiased reviews......kinda cuts right thru the crap. Excellent write up there Bob......ironically I had one of the original D terminator scales that Dillion put out and I thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. By the way it would allow you to dribble powder in and was not possible to fool by rezeroing itself. I don't recall at what weight it required minimium to allow you to start dribbling powder (far less than I was using tho). Again good write up and keep us posted as you add things.

GREAT review, Bob. Thanks a ton for going to the effort of reviewing, writing up the review and publishing! I thought the scale was doing so well, and then at the end, the whole thing fell apart. Too bad. I wonder what Dillon is going to come back with?? - mike

I also have the original D-terminator scale. As I recall it was a lot more expensive than what they're asking for this second edition. Maybe they left out some of the goodies to make the price more atractive?? But that's not like the usual Dillon way. Anyway, I think the way around this glitch might be to change the way the scale is used. If you start to trickle in the needed powder very soon after you put the pan with the main charge on the platten then the re-zeroing function is defeated. Right? Any ideas on who manufactured the original model electronic scale?

Thanks for the kind words. I have contacted Dillon and the manufacturer of the scale, which is Competitive Edge Dynamics (CED), interestingly CED which is in the UK, I think, has emailed me wanting my opinions on improving the software and we are in the process of corresponding on the subject. Dillon, on the other hand, has not returned my e-mails so far. I post updates as soon as I have more definitive information. As to the idea of some technique of getting around the trickling of powder into the Dillon, it cannot be fooled. It simply kicks into the changing the tare function immediately upon putting small amounts of powder into the scale pan. I've asked CED if this is indicative of all the scales or a defect in the software on mine. More reviews are in the works as soon as I can get the time to set down and compile the information. If anyone has any ideas for equipment they'd like reviewed, please let me know, and I'll see what can be done.
