Core-Lokt® Pointed Soft Point-(PSPCL)

Anybody reload these bullets? I just ordered a bulk box to reload for .308, basically looks like it is a lot cheaper to load and shoot these than some of the others. Have been shooting the Hornady 150 grains, but I have gone through two boxes in the past week.

Let me know.....

FWIW, I tried some factory 150gr. Core-lokts in my 308 Varmint Special, it was the worst shooting bullet I've ever tried, I saved the brass, ordered some Hornady dies and Hornady 165s Interlocks, now groups went from 2.5" to 3/4-1", good luck with your Core-Lokts. What grain C-Ls did you order? Jay

I have used them as practice bullets in the 270 and 7MM08 ans they shot good . My 300WM hates them just won't shoot any kind of group..I have killed many critters with them over the years, but I would not use them any more with the great bullets available for a fair price

I have had pretty good luck with them for both hunting and accuracy....
I use a lot of them in my 30/06s and my 30/30, and 30/40 Krag,.... the 80 grain in 6mm is not as accurate as I wish it was for serious varminting... but besides that I have had good luck.... I have had good luck with their 100 grain Corelokt in 6mm.

cheers

I like 'em, but don't use them for hunting. I buy 'em in bulk like you do, but I feed them to my M-1 because they are cheap (and so am I)
I have also loaded them for friends who do hunt with then and all reports to me were positive. They shoot accurately out of my M-1 and out of friends .308s and -06s.

My sako 243 did not like the 100gr corelokt at all, switched to 100gr nos bt and got decent accuracy!
For hunting i use 100gr partiton only and see no reason to change that!

If i want cheap bullets for practice i use various sierra bullets and like them alot!

I've loaded Rem CLPSP and shot factory as well, both at paper and game (20+head with this bullet).

Remington seems to be a crap shoot. John Barsness reported that he tested a Rem CLPSP on his Jeunke Bullet comparator, and it was the worst bullet he'd ever tested. (In other words, very un-concentric = inaccurate)
I trust his word.

Conversely, I bought 11 boxes of Rem CL Roundnose factory ammo for my 30.06 on sale, same lot #. I did so, knowing full well that the CL ROUND NOSE is one of the most dependable consistent bullet today.............and as luck would have it, they shot extremely well for me. Fired a couple boxes into paper, less than 1" groups. Shot 2 deer so far with them, very good performance.

So, I guess you roll the dice.

Here is the result of a 150 grain Remington CL SPS from a 7mm mag at 185 yards.

also it has worked well in my 30/06 with the 150 grain CL SPS.

Yes, over the years I have used a ton of them on the range for target shooting and initial load development. I usually use a Nosler Partition for hunting, but for anything up to elk, the Corelokt in an appropriate weight is a good choice, particularly in standard rounds where the bullet is not driven over 2700-2800 FPS MV.

Now Remington has a premium version out, a "bonded" Corelokt, and I'll bet it will be as good a hunting projectile as ANY premium bullet.

They're also accurate. Here's three 175-grainers fired from 200 yards, Ruger No. 1B, 7mm Rem. Mag., 66.5 grains of Norma N205....

I have found the corlokt's to be a good conventional bullet. They've shot pretty well out of my guns in various cal's. As long as the speeds are kept respectable you should have no problems.

The Remington CoreLokt just may have downed more deer (and deer sized game) in the world than any other bullet. In it's heyday no one gave it a thought. They bought "bullets" and went hunting.
If it happens to shoot well in your gun it's as good as you need for the deer size game you wish to hunt It ranks favorably with Winchester's power point, Federal's shur shock, and other conventional bullets.

Use them for targeting, or hunting as you see fit because they are as good as ever and will do the job.

The new bullet technology and bumper crop of "premium bullets" will cause a dimished use of this grand old bullet and for good reason. They're more reliable and the cost is more but in the minds of many, insignificantly so.

IMO the Remington coreLokt is a fine bullet for the smaller size big game".

With 150 grain bullets start with 40 grains of IMR 3031.
My best loads with 150 grain bullets in the 308 has been with 42 grains of IMR 3031.
I use CCI or Federal primers.

I have several boxes of Remington Core Lokts, different calibers, and occasionally will load some for practice.

I think they perform well in the field but don't expect anything better than average groups. I prefer to pay a little more and practice with Sierras.

I like the 150 gr. SP Core-Lokt in my .308 Rem 700 Varminter. Expansion and penetration are excellent on whitetails.

Using LC Match brass and CCI BR-2 primers, I get sub MOA groups @ 100 yds. with the following loads:

45 gr. Reloader 15 (most accurate load)

43 gr. Varget

43.8 gr. IMR 3031

48 gr. Winchester 748 (use CCI 250 magnum primer)

These loads were all shot from the bench. Under actual hunting conditions, you can miss using any bullet; premium or otherwise.

Success is 99% determination.

Like many other I find them accurate and inexpensive. I use following with good results:

.243 100 grain in the 243 Winchester (though we'll use the Nosler Partition when hunting season comes around)
.308 165 and 180 grain the 308 Winchester and 30'06
.311 180 roundnose in the 303 British

Good hunting!

the cor-loc can be pretty accurate, below is 2 groups I shot using a 85 gr sierra bthp and a 100 gr cor-loc.The top group is the 85 gr and the bottom is the 100 gr shot at 300 yds 3-shot groups.Have to admit though the 85 gr I am just started working up a load for it.These were shot with a 243 rem classic and 22in barrel.
I use the 165 grain corloc in a 30/06 some and love the cor-loc 55 grain HP in my 22/250 so far.The 100 gr cor-loc group was.478@300 and the 85 was 1.584 @300.

They've always been accurate for me but, they are about the softest bullets I've ever hunted w/. Many of the Whitetails I took w/ the CLs from 30-06 and 7RM (150s in Both) were not pass throughs, just shrapnel and a whole lot of meat damage. They do perform well at lower velocities, It is my bullet of choice in my Marlin 336 30-30. While using them in the 30-30, I usually get a textbook mushroom. I have heard of many having better luck w/ the heavier (180 & 175grn) CLs.

Good Luck!

I've only seen one animal shot with the Rem Core Lockt but had good result. A few years ago my dad borrowed my 7mm Rem mag for moose hunting. He shot a 500lbs cow at about 150 yards with 175gr factory Core Lockt. Made a broadside heart shot and the bullet exited on the off side going through the off side leg on it's way out. The cow made a few steps and collapsed. This is my limited experience with the Core Lokt.
