Hi! All

I am looking for some reload information On My new gun I purchased this last spring a 338 ultra mag. I have a Accurate reloading manual, but it is not new enough to have the reload information I need for my Ultra Mag. Instead of buying a whole new book I was just looking to add the information to my old one. Is there anyone out there that could help me out. Thanks! Rudy

The reloading pages from this web site have quite extensive data on loading the .338 Ultra mag. Remember DO NOT use the max loads shown there always start with the minimum shown. My 338 ultra shows a prefrence for IMR 7828 under a 250gr partition or Swift A Frame, very good accuracy and +/- 2950 mv depending on which bullet . A got a question for you 338 Ultra users. You guessed it, recoil! [Frown]

I'm not a huge fan, but feel I can shoot my 10 lb. 416 Remington well. My groups with this rifle are around 1.5-2", with a 3X scope.

How is the recoil of a 10 lb. 338 Ultra, with bullets from 180-250 grains.

Also, what type of scope is best?

Thanks in advance

"Recoil" is subjective and is skewed in many ways.

My personal 338Ultra is based upon a Sako L61R action, tucked within a McMillan heavy-filled Sako Hunter patterned stock, with a Decelerator and wears a 26" S/S #4 contoured barrel. On top resides a Leupold 6x42mm scope.

The total weight is about 9.5lbs,the stock fits me well and that glass is of extreme eye-relief. All attributes combined, formulate a very soft shooting rifle that remains most formidable on the receivin' end.

I think the cartridge is utterly superb in usefulness, has demonstrated superlative accuracy possibilities and drives extremely well constructed projectiles of nice BC's,at most impressive energy levels.

In a nutshell,it impresses me as few others have and I remain a devout fan and the recoil is most manageable sans a break and other bullshit.............

This may sound odd but I have a 300 RUM and a 338 RUM. The 338 is more pleasant to shoot than the 300. I shoot the 338 with 200 grain bullets and the 300 with 180 grain bullets. The 338 is more of a push while the 300 is a sharp blow.
