Fellas, once i get my bullets and start my experimentation at the range, I was wondering how do i tell if i am shooting my plain based bullets too hot?? Will i actually see this barrel leading that i am trying to understand? What does it look like?? Is it like gobs of melted lead left in the barrel?? Sorry if these are silly questions, but it will be a while before i can get my hands on a cast bullet book for newbies. is their any websites that might help a rookie out??

Lead usually presents itself as dark gray colored streaks along the edges of the rifling. Leading at the muzzle end generally indicates the bullet lube is breaking down and is not effective through the entire length of the barrel. Leading at the chamber end indicates the bullet is not fully obturating the bore and you are getting flame cutting of the bullet. I think if you see leading the full length of the bore you have a real problem with soft bullets or you are pushing them too fast.
