When did the word "node" find its way into reloading nomenclature?

I still laugh every time I see it used.

He is trying to pick his node.

Never ever use/used it in relation to reloading and I been doing that for 50 years. Never heard or read it used in that context either.

I had not either until recently.

On different reloading forums it's common to read about shooting ladder tests to look for accuracy nodes. There are even low nodes and high nodes.

"Find a node for your rifle".

Haha he said node.

I first read reference to barrel “nodes” over 40 years ago in reference to rimfire accuracy tuning. Placement of barrel tuning devices needed to take node position and amplitude into account to maximze accuracy. AFAIK, the term is far older than that.

Maybe you just don't "node" what ya'll are missing or were "noding" when the teacher was talking about "nodes pertaining to accuracy and what they mean". coffee

Bloody hell!

May I suggest you give these “nodes” a very wide birth!

They only work for the experts in reloading.

Us normal reloaders are incpabable of understanding them! clap

When we hit the node we will be "on point", another saying that seems in vogue lately.

Maybe us hunters invented it when getting ready to flush a game bird and our dog is "on point" Big Grin

Years ago I went to a shooting club here, where some trap shooters were busy in the club workshop trying to modify their shotguns to shoot better.

They were up to all sorts of crazy things.

I told them I shot trap with a field shotgun, and they laughed!

A friend suggested we all go out and try it.

I had a Browning Superposed hunting shotgun, with 3/4 and full chokes.

We shot a round of Internstional trap.

I was the only one who broke 25!!

The looks on their faces was priceless.

My father was watching, and told the others to get rid of their specialized shotguns and practice with normal field guns! rotflmo

Don't use too much powder or you'll get an overnode.

"I didn't node the gun was loaded
And I'm so sorry, my friend
I didn't node the gun was loaded
And I'll never, never do it again"

With apologies to the Andrews sisters. (Look it up.)
