I pulled down Turkish 8x57 ammo for just the bullet as the ammo is old and case necks would crack. Seemed like hot ammo to me and corrosive. Bought it when you could get 1400 rds for $70. The powder is square flake and filled up to the neck. And was brutal to shoot with steel butt plates.

After much research I decided 12gr of Unique would be the place to start. It has basically no recoil, and is accurate enough for plinking and getting my VZ24 to shoot well without shoulder pain. And well suited for recoil sensitive ladies and youth which was my goal.

I like Trail Boss and reduced loads for military rifles, but Trail Boss cant be found around here at least. Fortunately I have an ample supply of Unique. It is like shooting a 22 Mag and pretty fun I must say. Just thought I would share with everyone.

Shpoud be a good load Mick! I use 15 grs. of Unique under an open cell foam filler in my 9.3 X 57 and velocities run 1444 fps average with excellent SD and AD, below 10 fps. I use the same load in my 9 X 57 but it's been long ago enough that I've forgotten the velocity. Same good numbers and both are accurate.

I have a VZ 24 and had the bolt forged and bent, drilled and tapped, floated the barrel, and shot and cleaned for a long time now. At first it was so dirty that I couldn't hit a 2 ft target twice in a row but now it has settled in nicely a little over an inch @ 50yds. Getting better all the time. I'm pretty happy with it now.

And yes that is a sweet load for plinking and cleaning. Just what I wanted. I saw an article at deer camp about Unique in a magazine and thought it to be a good idea to try it at least. The article stated that Unique was good for pistol , shotgun, and rifle. Will go back to full pressure load development later on this year. Pic of rifle in on sporterized rifle forum second page. May be my backup deer rifle.
