Alliant list 62 grns of R22 as a low 2700ish FPS load for 180ngrn bullet in 30-06

I have read here that R22 could be the go-to powder for the fastest 180's an old 30-06 could throw.

Surely this is a tame load...or is it?

I looked at several sets of load data and 60-62gr of RL22 was the max load depending on the bullet used. I use a lot of RL22 in various rifle/calibers but I use IMR4350 in both of my 30-06's. I think its 54.5gr of IMR4350 with 180gr Sierra Pro Hunter bullets. What bullet are you planning to use and I will check the data sources I have for RL22.

Ihave used a lot of R22 in the 06, its a great powder for both the 180 and 200 gn proj....however the loads are really compressed, i have totally gone over to R17in the 06 now, it gives the same vel, at much the same pressure as R22 , but there are no compression issues, especially if your useing mono proj
Another great powder is MRP, in the 06, it gives top velocities
With R17 im getting 2900 fps with the 180 gn proj(nosler part)

The Nosler Reloading Guide #6 lists RL22 at 57gr for 2682fps, 59gr at 2777 and 61gr as max for 2872fps and compressed load. They list this data for balistic tip and partitions.

Maybe in Nosler's rifle 61 grains of RL22 will push a 180 grain at 2872 FPS but it want in mine.

In my 22 inch barrel 65 grains of RL22 will only get 2850 with a 165 grain Partition. It is very accurate however.

Lately for target shooting only I have been using 59 grains of of RL22 and the 208 grain A Max. That is super accurate but only produces 2560 FPS out of my rifle.

I chrono-ned 2760 fps using H4350 and 180g Nosler Partitions and 2716 fps for the 180g Barnes TSX. The Partitions are under 1 inch at 100 yards and the Barnes are right at an inch at 100 yards. The Barnes shoot about 2 inches lower than the Partitions in my gun - Browning White Gold Medallion and a 24 inch tube.

Using 56-57 grains of IMR4350, I have been able to get over 2800fps, with the 180 Partition. I know I am a dinosauer, but why would anyone use 62 grains, when they can get the same vels, or better, with 4350???

Amazing....do you have pressure data to go with this?....I'd change powders if you do!

m98 i have been toying with rl-17 and my 30-06 seemed to be ok with rl-22 and had no pressure with 61 grains with 180 tsx. I know your gun is yours and i will work up but how high have you gone with 180 partition. I do believe you because i have seen good velocity in another caliber

with what powder R22 or r17/180 partition
with R22 i use 62 gns for a vel of 2880 and with R17 58 gns for a vel of 2900....24 inch barrel , O 35P , AND lAPUA CASES......case life with this load will be longer then yours !!!...primer pockets are tight as new still after 15 shots, just for fun one day, i just loaded and shot a few lapua cases, with these full powder loads and got between 50-60 reloads out of a case...

I believe what M98 is getting with RL17, which is close to IMR4350, although a little slower, my vels are close with IMR4350, although I haven't reached 2900fps.
