Folks:

HEEELP!!! I am at my wits end trying to locate someplace where I can get my hands on Federal Large Rifle Match primers! Tried the ususal online places without luck. Any suggestions?

As to potential alternatives I have experimented with quite a few. In my opinion and indeed experience, it DOES make a noticeable difference as to which primer (manufacturer) I use in terms of accuracy.

Good luck w/ your search, I've pretty much exhausted my usual sources. I have gone to CCI BR2 & find accuracy, for some of my rifles at least, has been just about the same or a bit better.

Give up, large rifle primers are scarce right now. CCI are available and Winchester primers are starting to come back. Try those brands.

I was in my local sporting goods store today. There were gobs of large rifle primers on the shelf including Federal but, alas, no Federal match primers.

A batch came into Sportsman's warehouse about a month ago and were all gone 3 days later. Same of the standard #210 primers.

We haven't had any Federal 210's around here for about a year.

Do any of you guys know what has brought about this shortage? More importantly, what if anything the manufaturers are doing about it? Hopefully there is some good news out there...

I have reluctantly strted using CCI find them to be acceptable but not anywhere close to the results that I have with the Federal LR match primers.

I should have bought the whole box of 215M primers when I saw them... Didn't need them when I bought the ones I did but haven't seen any since.... I can find ALL the regular 215s I want, just not the match primers....

Ken....

If I was going to guess, it is because they have a backlog of military orders, perhaps tying up equipment/resources for a while. Not long ago I read in other site threads that people were having trouble finding .223(5.56) and 7.62 x 39 ammo in some areas at one time.
Often the US military will insist "its orders" be filled first, by placing a certain rating on an order, and if the company wants to do business with them in the future they have to follow suit. ATK, which owns Federal, Lake City, and others, has been getting some large ammunition orders from the government lately, and may be the cause? Again just a guess...

Have faith guys, they will show up.

I went to my local gunshop yesterday and he had a good stock of any kind of primer you could think of. (Fed, CCI, Winchester, Remington) I bought another brick of Fed 215M just because.

One thing that may have been holding up the delivery is that both Federal and CCI have changed their packaging. They have new colored boxes for both brands.

So, probably they will show up where you live soon.

No problem here, just bought 2 boxes (2000) fed lr mag match primers and the gunstore had another 20 or 30 boxes on the shelf, might just go back and get a couple more seeing it's drying up over your way....

I am not seeing any problem with anything other than 210 and 210M primers. Easy to find the magnum primers, I just bought some for the lapua. maybe i need to purchase some more.
