Get a lot of conflicting reports. For years I've used imr 4350 with all bullet ranges especially .85 grn bullets but now I'm not so sure this one is giving me the highest vel and accuracy. I want to use just one bullet the .85 grain and I'm not having much luck in the accuracy dept with my Model 7 SS. I can't hit a soda can with it at 200 yds, thats my usual test for my rifles but some will do it at 300 yds. These are hunting rifles not target guns,They are used hard. The model 7 is free floated, with all the usual accuracy tricks and I only shoot 3 shots as the bbl heats in a hurry, then I let it cool down.

IMR 4350 ought to be a pretty good choice for the .243/85 grain, but if you're not getting satisfactory results I would suggest one of these (in no particular order): RL-19, H-414, WW-760, VV 160, VV 150, H-380, IMR 4320, or one of the 4895's.

I would regard IMR-3031 as somewhat faster than optimum for this cartridge and bullet; also, 3031 will give wide velocity spreads and (on the convenience side) doesn't meter too nicely.

358, Just got off the phone with Dave Brown at Sierra, he suggested trying Varget or powders in that range, even 4350. I forgot to ask what the accuracy load is for the 85gr. which I've found to be a great help when looking for tha right load, might want to give them a call and ask what that load might be. 1-800-223-8799, Jay

I use for everything up to deer and antelope. I know it's not supposed to be big enough for deer. But, actualy shooting in the field for the past 40 yrs tell me different.

I have an older Savage 110 in .243Win. and it seems to prefer IMR4895 and Norma204 powders. IMR4895 produces the best distribution of accurate groups while Norma 204 produces the odd super group but does not appear to produce consistently good groups. The bullet I use is the Sierra 85gr. HPBT. Best wishes.
