I have no data for Trophy Bonded Bear Claws and they are my moose medicine. The draws are only going out but one of the people I'm loading for should get a moose draw at least. Both 7mm Rem Mags I load for like the Fed Prem 175 gr. Bonded factory loads so I wan't to work up one for each. Also I wan't to work one up for my fathers new 280. Anyone have load data or a pet load that they are willing to share with me? Thanks in advance.

Might want to be careful and use data from Barnes for their X bullets. The Bear Claws have a solid copper shank, and could boost pressures when used with standard data for a Hornady bullet for example. A 175 gr. TBBC in 7mm Mag should do wonders on a moose. Just a thought, but why not stick with the Federal factory loads? I like to reload my own shells as much as anybody, but the price for 25 TBBC component bullets is almost as much as a box of 20 factory loads here in BC. If you are set on loading your own, I'd reccomend starting with RL22 powder, or H1000. Both should get you to 2900 fps. Can't help you much with the 280 Rem loads, but you may want to try RL19 or IMR 4831.

Tod Do boxes of TB's come in 25? I've killed moose with the TB's and your assumption is right, they work wonders. I've recovered two bullets and they were perfect mushrooms and the lead really held to the jacket. It cost me 65$+tax per box of Federal premium TB's four years ago. Does a box actually cost near that much? Two boxes at 130$+tax, I could buy alot of reloading components for that. Does any one actually offer load data for the bearclaws. I used to think that they were a speer product but I've heard that they are federal product?? If I can't get info and they are that expensive I'll try to find something else that works or maybe buy the factory loads but I thought those days were behind me.

It true the TBBC do come in boxes of 25. I would stick with the factory loads or use another bullet. Around here it's less then 10 dollars more to get 20 loaded for the price of 25 componet bullets. I would look into North Fork bullets. Very similar construction, plus some really nice extras and they are almost half price compared to the TBBC. Never heard anything bad about Northforks either. Don't think they offer a 175 7mm but the 160 should do the trick.

Yep, wholesale sports sells the 175 gr. TBBC for like $45 for a bag of 25 bullets. The Federal Premium load costs $50 a box. Do what ever you like, but I'd go with the factory load if you want to shoot Bear Claws. They are sold under the Speer corporate umbrella, but I'm not sure if they make them. Wouldn't use Grand Slam or Mag-Tip data though, go with Barnes data. A 175 gr. Nosler Partition would work for moose. As would the 160 gr. barnes XLC, 175 gr. Speer Grand Slam, 160 gr. or 175 gr. Swift A-Frame. To be honest, I'd shoot one with a Swift Scirocco, 154 gr. Hornady Interbond, or the new 160 gr. Accubond. They will hold up well.

I think I remember reading that Federal makes the Trophy Bonded Bearclaws on license from Jack Carter. Federal is now owned by the "Speer" people.

Thanks guys. I won't be loading them If we get moose draws. I seen some 160 gr. XLC's on the shelf up in Williams Lk so I may go with them in all three rifles if I have to. If all else fails I'll buy the factory loads. I just perfer loading my own.

That is what I'd do, not that the XLC is a cheap bullet, but it is a deep penetrator for 1/2 the price. Bear Claws may be good bullets (never used them myself), but there are a dozen or so bullets that will work as well, or almost so.
