OK Folks,

Have not loaded for the 6mm Rem before. Looking at the data and the powders I have, looks to me like AA4350 should be OK for this round.

The Accurate Arms site shows 41.0-45.2 gr AA4350 of this propellent behind a 100 gr SP bullet. They do not show this powder for a 95 gr bullet.

How about a starting load of 42.0 gr behind a 95 grain Nosler Partition?

Thanks!

Mike

I have two 6mm Remingtons and both of them get charged with H-414.

H-414 is one of the easiest powders to use and has excellent uses in a lot of cartridges. I use it a lot!

Loadtech calls it 40.6-45.1 for AA4350.

I agree 414 has always worked well for me in the 6mm 7x57 case.

As usual just my $.02

Thanks guys. Will load a set 1 grain down as a starter.

The only powders I have in that burn rate range are a little IMR 4350, the AA4350 and IMR 4831. Trying to phase out things I don't need ... like the IMR 4350 as it is way more expensive than the AA4350. The 4350 range powders work fine in the 300 mags, the .338 Win Mag, and .416 Rigby. IMR 4831 works fine in the .264 Win Mag, the 300 mags, 9,3x74R, and the .470 NE.

Had to add a powder (H335) for the .458 AR and that frankly pained me Wink Really don't want to add another.

Thanks again!

I have a Frankenstein M700 (has parts from 3 rifles in it) in 6mm Rem. I chronographed the following load in it.

Bullet - 100 Hornady Spire
Primer Federal #210
Case R-P
Powder charge 44 grains of AA 4350
OAL Just short enough to feed thru magazine.

Velocity 3003 FPS (uncorrected at 15 feet.)
Pressure signs on the primer and case were as mild as factory ammo. I have fired a 100 or so of these. I have use a few Speer and Sierra bullets in it and they shot well too. I never tried hotter loads. If I need more power I would use a different cartridge.

I used AA 4350 when it was $10/lb and IMR 4350 was $15. Now they about the same price locally.
Since powders tend to come and go I have about quit using those brands that are under 40 years old. I don't expect to buy any more AA4350.

My 6mm Remington has always been persnickety about which powder it likes. It's a Remington 700 Varmint Special -- the heavy barreled one. Mine is the older one with the pressed checkering on the stock.

I've gotten my best accuracy with IMR 4064 powder (about 41 gr. of it) and 70 gr Sierra Match bullets. Berger match bullets from 65 gr. to 90 gr. give equally good accuracy -- all with IMR 4064. Other (slower burning) powders that should be more nearly optimum for this caliber, such as Win 760, H 414, the 4831 powders, and especially IMR 4350 and H 4350, have not worked well for me in this rifle.

Powders in the 4350 range do fine in the 6mm, particularly with bullets of 85 grains and less. For heavier bullets you can get more optimum velocities from something like H-4831 or IMR 7828 (short cut versions prefered). But no deer will know the difference in the 3000 fps you can launch a 100 grain bullet with 4350 versus the 3100-3150 fps you might get with a slower powder.

Mike,

You should be able to find good accuacy for your 6mm using the AA.

In spite of a couple of burn rate charts that show it faster than IMR, my experience is it is slower than IMR.

I used to buy 8 lbs of AA at a time and had some that was really slow. Almost equal to that of 4831.

I still use a little AA 4350 (about 8 lbs a year) but I check each new lot against the previous for any burning rate changes.
