packrattusnongratus9.3X57 Loads?
I'm loading for the Husky 46 I just received. Thanks to you, SamB! I'm curious about safe handloads with the 285 gr bullet. I have chosen IMR 3031 or IMR 4895. I have Norma commercial cases, and WLR primers. My problem is the data is from Loaddata.com but for a Husky 146. Is this going to be safe in the 46 or not? I thought I would work up from 4 grains lower than that shown in the chart. 40 gr of 3031 might be too much to start at . Should I be thinking 15% instead of 10% for starting load and then work up to 38 gr for a maximum? I tend to like large for caliber, slow bullets. That makes me feel justified in going to the middle of most loading charts for my maximum loads. A feral hog or other hard target won't be able to tell. What are your thoughts? packrattusnongratusDoes the book show what rifle was used to develop the data? That was my main concern. I don't want to damage a wonderful design rifle. P.

lawndartThose loads won't damage any gun that is safe to shoot. I used essentially the same loads in a 9.5x57 M-1910 Mannlicher Schoennauer.
I have an article by Dieter Sturm on loading for that cartridge in older rifles. Send me you snail mail address and I will send a copy to you.
I'll send one to you as well, ALF.
