A Belgian acquaintance of mine has a 9.3 x 57 Swedish Mauser (Wild Boar Hunting)and wants us to get into reloading. I would welcome load data for this calibre, especially for the lighter bullets RWS (247 gr KS, 258 gr H-Mantle, 286 gr RNSP and the Norma PPC bullets), but anything is welcome. Powders of preference are Vihtavuoris.

Thanks in advance,

Gus,

if you can get Norma powders, you will find some data at www.norma.cc Norma still makes the brass.

Hi Guus , I reload the 9x57R .With similar
bullet weights you should be able to find
a startingload.I`m at work now and don`t have
access to my files , but will get back to you
as soon as I find the time.My favourite load
is a 180gr Hornady and 42gr N 140 with a CCI
BR primer . I use RWS cases (8x57 IRS)

I can help you - somewhat. I have loaded some for the 9.3x57 but all of the loads we loaded were with IMR 3031. We used Norma bullets, 232gr, and with 47gr of 3031 were listed at 2330fps MV. This load calculates to about 2750 ft lbs of energy and I would think you should be able to swat some pretty big critters with such a load, certainly I would not feel undergunned up to and including moose.
Having said this, if I were you, I would get load data from Vitahouri (sp?) and try to load to about this same velocity. If your rifle is in good condition, you should be able to drop off the stated load and work up to a comfortable load with no problems.
Good luck!

I just checked the Vihtavouri website on a whim and found this info - hope it helps!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please go to the website: http://www.vihtavuori.fi/vihtavuori/rifle/93x57.htm
and check as I can't make the data line up properly.

These loads were published in no. 5 of the Swedish Vapentidningen in 94.

Barnes X 250 grains Vihtavuori N-140 53 grains 700 m/s
Barnes X 250 grains Norma 202 51 grains 655 m/S

Barnes X 270 grains Vihtavuori N-140 51 grains 672 m/s
Barnes X 270 grains Norma 202 49 grains 635 m/s

Lapua Mega 285 grains Vihtavuori N-140 49,5 grains 640 m/s
Lapua Mega 285 grains Norma 202 48 grains 610 m/s

Back off a bit and use them with care!

The author of the article tried Norma 201, 202 and 204. 201 and 202 seemed too fast and 204 too slow. Maybe the new 203-B would work and then give results similar to N-140 ??
In the 9.3x62 its supposed to give some 20-25 m/s more than 202.

Good luck!!

I`d suggest , depending on your barrel length
, to use :
16,3g bullet with 44-47gr of N133
18,5g RK bullet with 43-46gr of N133
19g TUG bullet with 41-45gr of N133
Be careful and start at the lowest point ,I
hope this helps , take care Jrgen
