Which powder should I use in this wildcat,
I´m now using VN 160 and 75 grs V-max bullets.
Thinking about Sierra 85grs and Lapua 105gr Scena bullets.

I messed with a 6mm-284 more years back than I want to admit.

The powder that I remember doing the very best is unfortunately not available anymore. The rifle I worked with gave great results with H 450.

Actually, any slow burning powder will work well.

I got good results with H 4350 with 75 grain bullets.

With heavier bullets H 4831, RL 22, and IMR 7828 all worked fine.

That darned H 450 was just the best of the bunch, over all.

Since H 450 is no longer available, if I had to pick one powder for this cartridge I guess I would have to go with RL 22.

My best 6mm/284 loads consist of 53 grains of IMR 4350 with the 85-grain Sierra HPBT, and 53.5 grains of H4831 with the Sierra 100 grain bullet. MV of the 85-grain load is 3500 FPS, and the 100 grain does 3400.

This is the 100-grainer @ 100 yards, 5 shots. The 4350 load with the 85 grain bullet is just about as good.

With MRP, I was able to get over 3600 FPS with the 85 grain Sierra. But it wasn't as accurate a load as with IMR 4350.

I have been using this round since 1965! It's a good one.
