I would never use a 38 or any other centerfire gun to shoot bees. I have loaded snake loads for my 357 mag but when I use it I am shooting into the ground not into the air to try to hit a bee. "Bee" that as it may I made my "shot cups from the paper backing of shipping labels. I cut them to the length of the case from the rim to the mouth and folded them over a pencil eraser to close the top end. I loaded the small pistol primed case with 3.5 grains of HP-38and placed a wad made of notebook paper (cut with a slightly belled case) over the powder. I then filled the shot cup with no more than 150 grains of #9 shot and placed the case over it. I pressed the shot cup gently onto the powder and crimped the case on the shot cup.

The "pattern" of these loads varies quite a bit with your powder charge so you may have to reduce it to get the best pattern. My loads in my gun fired a pattern that was about 1" of spread for every foot of distance from the muzzle to the target. Beyong ten feet the pattern was opened up to the point where it was difficult to hit a snakes head - good luck hitting a bee.
The velocity of my final load, from my gun, was 869 fps. Now, you calculate how far those pellets will travel before they won't put an eye out and make sure you have double that distance beyond the bee and you could be considered "responsible" if not still dangerous when using that load to shoot at bees.

Speer, Sierra, Lyman, Hornady, Hodgdon have reliable reloading data. You won't find it on so and so's web page.

I use my Crosman 1100 CO2 or Farco 28 gauge pneumatic air shotguns loaded with lead #12 shot. Its is truly a blast and the wife can't say I'm wasting time.

What distance are you from the bees you are shooting? Have you tried corn meal or rice instead of shot?

for every hour in front of the computer you should have 3 hours outside
