I'm looking for a powder for 223 rem that meters better than imr 4198, I crush some cases with 4198 because of the powder measure. Open to suggestions as well.

#1). 748 WW a ball powder? Yes. WW only makes ball powder to my knowledge. #2). Military developed what is now Ball C #2 and H335 for the .223 and .308, sometimes, not during police actions, available surplus. Most faster rifle powders work o.k. I like the full case of 4895. I guess Varget is similar. Haven't got to it yet. Bought 8 lbs of 4895 from Mr. H many years back. Doesn't take much. Happy New Year. Luck.

Check out surplus WC 844 and WC 846 also (and AA data powder 2200 if still around). I've used other ball powders such as AA2230, H322, H335 and BLC2 as well as the W748. Mike

H322 is not a ball powder, but an extruded powder that started life for Uncle Sam as IMR 8208.

I was once corrected for calling anything other than a winchester powder a ball powder. It seems they have a copyright or trademark. Other ball powders like H335 must be referred to as spherical................. Depending upon your application, bullet weight, and barrel twist, some other good .223 powders are: IMR 4046, H322, N133, N135, and N540. Some people like Alliant's relodaer series of powders, I never had much luck with them. A lot of people swear by Varget; the pound I tried-- I only swore at there may have been some trouble with that lot as other people who bought it around the same time were also not impressed. Some time after I began to see a lot of posts on forums praising the stuff. If the enemy is in range, so are you. - Infantry manual

In the 223, H335 is worth a try.
