My Redding powder trickler jams up with Accurate #9. Any recommendations for an alternat powder trickler that doesn't bind up with the fine grain powders?

1. The proper answer to: Where is the best place in town to get a steak dinner? is…You should go to Mel's Diner and get the fried chicken.
2. Big game animals can tell the difference between .015 of an inch in diameter, 15 grains of bullet weight, and 150 fps.
3. There is a difference in the performance of two identical projectiles launched at the same velocity if they came from different cartridges.
4. While a double rifle is the perfect DGR, every 375HH bolt gun needs to be modified to carry at least 5 down.
5. While a floor plate and detachable box magazine both use a mechanical latch, only the floor plate latch is reliable. Disregard the fact that every modern military rifle uses a detachable box magazine.
6. The Remington 700 is unreliable regardless of the fact it is the basis of the USMC M40 sniper rifle for 40+ years with no changes to the receiver or extractor and is the choice of more military and law enforcement sniper units than any other rifle.
7. PF actions are not suitable for a DGR and it is irrelevant that the M1, M14, M16, & AK47 which were designed for hunting men that can shoot back are all PF actions.
8. 95 deg F in Africa is different than 95 deg F in TX or CA and that is why you must worry about ammunition temperature in Africa (even though most safaris take place in winter) but not in TX or in CA.
9. The size of a ding in a gun's finish doesn't matter, what matters is whether it’s a safe ding or not.
10. 1 in a row is a trend, 2 in a row is statistically significant, and 3 in a row is an irrefutable fact.
11. Never buy a WSM or RCM cartridge for a safari rifle or your go to rifle in the USA because if they lose your ammo you can't find replacement ammo but don't worry 280 Rem, 338-06, 35 Whelen, and all Weatherby cartridges abound in Africa and back country stores.
12. A well hit animal can run 75 yds. in the open and suddenly drop with no initial blood trail, but the one I shot from 200 yds. away that ran 10 yds. and disappeared into a thicket and was not found was lost because the bullet penciled thru. I am 100% certain of this even though I have no physical evidence.
13. A 300 Win Mag is a 500 yard elk cartridge but a 308 Win is not a 300 yard elk cartridge even though the same bullet is travelling at the same velocity at those respective distances.

I have 2---a Lyman (junk) works like yours and an OLD either Pacific or CH (Ohio) about 60 yrs old that is made out of an aluminum tube attached to on old suction cup like they used to use on strap on roof racks. It has a 5/15 alum. tube with a knob running through it.

Wish I could get a couple more!

Read recently where a gun writer just replaced his Pacific ALUMINUM powder funnel. Maybe they carry them.

You can't turn the trickler tube. Fine granules are getting caught between the tube and the body of the unit.

Saeed - yes

Carpetman - I already have three powder measures that are very accurate - shoot very little handgun ammo and don't want to switch out powders for such small volumes.

Lawnchair - given the low cost of a new one, not really worth the time or money to ship it back.

RapidRob,

Not sure I understand how removing static electricty on the inside of the powder hopper would fix powder granules which are binding between the aluminum tube and the body of the trickler inside the walls of the trickler.

Static attracts gun powder. I see it in my powder dispenser. That's glass though. I was going to ask you how long has the trickler been in use? You need to get a slight, fine coating of the carbon from the gun powder over the surfaces to reduce that static. Comes with time and use.
Never tried a drier sheet but that might work.

Mike--not to flame--I read all time about one powder or the other that wont meter. The Belding & Mull despite being antiquated looking and slow will accurately meter any powder I have tried and once set a trickler is not needed.

Get one of these; they don't jam; and throw the others away. Although I no longer use it: I don't shoot anything using less than 80 grains of powder so trickling is a big waste of time.

That is basically what mine is but uses a short length of aluminum tube/pipe!

The best/worst that I have had to do was back up the tube a smidge then do again.

P.S. the trouble with the RCBS is that it looks like it holds a lot more powder than necessary!

Mike--As far as I know, EBAY and a used is about the only source for a B&M powder measure. I did a quick look see on EBAY and some did not have the charging tube--it is a must. I noticed some have a plastic hopper and some have aluminum but most have a brass hopper. I've had mine since 1968 and it's the only measure I have ever used. They are pretty much fool proof. If undercharged you will see it and no way to overcharge. Once set they hold right on.

Dunno about their trickler but I'm not impressed with the Redding case trimmer. The fine adjustment is useless.

As to tricklers, I've always made my own from old 12-gauge cases with crossed tubes through them. Turn the tube's flute hole down and minute powder increments come out at the tap of my finger.

I hardly ever use my old Ohaus trickler, the Lyman 55 powder measure works very well for loading hunting ammunition. The Ohaus has a very heavy base (the black part in the image below) with thin felt on the bottom so it's very stable and doesn't move at all in use. The trickler tube is not a tight fit in the thin walled aluminium powder reservoir and I haven't noticed any issues when I have used it on rare occasions.
Win 748 is the finest grain powder I have but probably never used it in the trickler as it meters perfectly in the Lyman 55.

Use a powder measure, and a spoon..My powder measure works like a charm, with most all pistol or rifle powder. the secret is to toss every charge with the same motion and a few other tricks. at some point you wont need the spoon or a Trickler..Practice, practice!

I'd be curious on this, too, Mike. I have the same problem from time to time with my RCBS trickler. I can't seem to pinpoint what causes it, as it appears to happen randomly. I'll load a few batches with no issue, then the next batch will jam up and make the trickler tube hard to turn.

I have an olde tyme Redding trickler I got in an auction lot. I'll swap that one in and let you know if the results are any different. The thing's probably older than me and weighs a solid half-pound. I'm set to load some Bullseye and W231 in the next day or so and will update.

OP,
FYI-
Accurate Arms #9 &/or Accurate #9 are NOT the same powder/burn rate.

Trickling Accurate #9 powder?
IF your cases are trimmed to w/in a couple thousandths & you are crimping by any means...you are wasting your time.
A chronograph will verify the issue.

Keep'em in the X ring,
DAN

I never rotate mine. Index the hole up and bump it lightly to drop a grain or 2 at a time, works like a charm with all powders. Or very lightly rock back and forth with the hole up, no need to rotate.
