SmilerI just received a box of Remington Premum.270 Acrua tips from midway I ordered for a friend. Man are all you out there receiving rounds with cases like these? There are spots all over the cases especially around the necks but also some have big gray spots on the body of the case. I don't know to clean them up with 00 steel wool or what. Just wondering if everyone was running into this?

There's been a lot of Remington discussions lately. Actually for quite a while.

Most of it has been negative and most concerning poor quality.

Your post fits the scene reasonably well.

Shoot them as is....I doubt there's any thing but aesthetics with them.

I'm not sure this is Remington or Midway. There was an earlier post about corrosion on some bulk bullets from them.

I just bought Rem 338 win mag 225 gr corelocts today just to get my new gun on paper before trying out my handloads. (don't want to shoot my chronograph) anyway, the discoloration on the cases and necks is really bad. I hope that is no indication on how the new 700ss will shoot. Honestly the cases look terrible.

SmilerFredj338 I guess you remember my episode with the bad bullets, and I do mean bad. I can't see any deep corrosion on these cases but we used to throw them away like this. Not worried about what the deer will think but what I will think when I cap ine off to set his scope. It reminds me of the outside of a cafe, if it looks like shit they most likly serve it also!

Hey Bob, The reason I asked about the Nickel Plating is your mention of the "gray" spots. Some of the old Nickel cases I have are stored in the nice plastic Federal shell holders, but otherwise exposed to normal room air. They get a dull tarnish on them that can be wiped off with a few twists in a paper towel. The ones inside the plastic slip-top boxes don't get tarnished as quickly.

But obviously that has nothing to do with your issue.

Anyway, I wonder if it is because the boxes of cartridges were stored in a Warehouse without any environmental controls, or if it was something to do with one of the case rinsing operations at Remington? I doubt there is any way to know for sure.

By the way, if you will take a piece of "0000SteelWool" and rub lightly over those spots, it might remove them. I doubt I'd do it with the case stuck in a Lee Case Trimmer "Shell Holder" and spun with a drill though, cause I'd be more interested in seeing how tenacious the tarnish is.

If you take the Tarnish off, look closely with magnification to see if there are any Pin Holes in the surface of the Case wall. If you find any, that could be a potential problem for your Chamber wall "if" the case blows-out there. They can act like a Micro Cutting Torch and blow out a small hole in the Chamber Wall.

May not happen at all though. They "might" be good for a single shot even if the "Pits" are present. You just never know.

Just not worth Reloading with Pits in them though.

Best of luck to you.
