At this point, it is just rumor, so I dont want to start an undue state of alarm, but I have heard that maybe there will be a powder shortage in the US. Can anybody confirm or deny this via credible sources?

Just call the manufacturers.

seams to be people stock pileing powder, primers, bullets and brass again
if you can give it another few weeks and the demand should return to normal.
