I have a lot of high quality 30.06 brass and thinking about buying a 35 Whelen . Is it easy or difficult to convert this brass to 35 Whelen . Does ti take many steps .

I made a taper expander (it is about 3/4" in length) to expand from .30 to.35 in one pass. Use a good lube on the inside of the neck and go slow.

Just for the heck of it, I have done the same with 270 brass but annealed the necks first. One pass from .27 to l35 but the mouths of the cases were definitely not square.

Good choice on the Whelen, great cartridge.

It's easy to do.

I have a 35 Whelen myself (AI version).

Size your 30-06 brass in the 35 Whelen die, fire with full power loads, and you're good to go.

Get yourself a dedicated neck sizing die for the 35 Whelen. It's a useful bit of tooling for this particular cartridge.

One other thought. If you can lay your hands on some "cheap" 357 pistol bullets you can use them for fireforming after you size the cases.

I have necked up 30-06 to 35 Whelen with standard dies using the standard expander ball with zero problems. I use Armorall protectant for lubing the inside of the case neck. You don't even have to remove it after you size the case.

Thanks for the input . It looks like I will buy the Redding deluxe die set . It has a long tapered expander and a neck sizer die .
