Just wanted to say hello, ,this is my first post. I just bought a new 22-250 Model 12 and would like to know what others do for barrel break-in and some loads I should try. Also does anyone shoot 40Gr V-Max in there 22-250?? Any advice would be appreciated | ||

Welcome to AR. For barrel break in, it doesn't hurt to do the one shot and clean routine for the first ten shots or so. Krieger recommends one shot and scrub the bore around the throat area to smooth out the reamer marks left from cutting the chamber throat and repeat this until you get no indications of copper, so that's what I do. I generally shoot 50 grain Vmax's in my 22.250 but I just bought a some 40 grain Sierra HP's to try in it but no results yet because I'm going to try them in another new Savage 22.250 that I'm building with a tight necked, PacNor 26" supermatch, 3 groove barrel and Sharp Shooter Supply trigger that I'm putting in a Choate Varminter stock. I'm going to see what kind of performance I can get out of a budget blaster. Frank "I don't know what there is about buffalo that frightens me so.....He looks like he hates you personally. Welcome, Two bullets have worked very well in several Savages. The Hornady 52 gr. A-max and the Sierra 50 gr. Varminter #1330. Our favorite load is 39.5-40 gr. IMR 4350, WW cases, CCIBR primers. My Son-in-laws 22-250 is incredibly accurate with these two bullets, out shooting my custom barrels. Jim Please be an ethical PD hunter, always practice shoot and release!! 22-250 Mod. 200 Stevens, no break in as such, out of the box MOA several loads. Resntly with 38.1gr. of DP85 got MOA w/ 52, and 55gr. Bergers,50gr. TNTs, and 55gr Varmint nite mares. Get yourself 8# of the DP 85. I doubt if you can overload it. No Chronograph readings as the wind was super strong and gusting. roger Old age is a high price to pay for maturity!!!
