Ok friends, I have a question about long term storage. I have secured several barrels from a local person who gets them from Armor Meats. They are fantastic barrels; they're 50 gallon black plastic, very very heavy duty with a lid and seal ring much like a canning jar. They were used for hog casings and I washed them out and they're squeaky clean inside. I intend to use one for long term water storage (for emergencies). My question is what do I need to do if I want to fill one up for long term ammo storage? Anything special? Most people are bothered by those portions of Scripture they do not understand, it is the passages I do understand that bother me. (Twain)

I would buy a combination of one gallon and individual water bottles, and place them inside the plastic barrels. Store bought water should keep ok for at least 5 years or so. And it will be easier to use and transport than just barrels full of water... As to the ammo, I would store in in military ammo cans, and place them inside the barrels. Again it is easier to handle it that way. Also, I recommend you keep the ammo indoors. Extreme cold and heat and moisture are your worst enemies. DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY
