Toto, I have never used the 7 RUM, nor have I ever owned a Savage. HOWEVER, for what it's worth, Savage rifles are generally regarded as plain, frugally made rifles, that have a LONG reputation for being EXCEPTIONALLY accurate right out of the box. They aren't the prettiest, but apparently they DO shoot very well, and are usually good value for your dollar. I certainly would not hesitate to buy the model you are looking at.....I've even considered that model myself, in a different caliber. Go to www.huntamerica.com and do a search on thier forum. I think you'll turn up a lot of info.

Toto, There is a current thread called "Allen Day in Outdoor life Magazine". Go to that thread. Allen was involved in testing some rifles for OL magazine. In post 21 of the thread, he sings high praises for the Savage. Post your questions on that thread and get his opinion.

A Savage huh? Well you're on your way to (usually) excellent accuracy at a great price! I have never...ever seen a Savage that would not shoot! Now, I have a 300 ultra and I love it! For your 7 Ultra the #s you quoted are realistic! Do a search for" 7mm ultra" in this forum (reloading) and look up the posts that Eric Leonard posted. Also you can send him a private message or an e-mail so he can send you his brother's 7mm Ultra data that he worked up! Whatever you do you are on the right track just....... Make sure that it does have a 26" BARREL!!!

In a Savage, eh? Why would you want a new poor ugly rifle?

Ranger Dave, what do you dislike about the Savage rifles??

I have 2 friends that own 110's. I told them to take the Savage over the Rem 710. Both Savages have been poor. One groups about 3 inches at 100 yards. The other has trouble ejecting the fired round. Both rifles are package models chambered for 30-06. The bolts are very loose but are horrible to work. Very gritty. It is like Savage never finshed the machining. Some lapping compound may help them. I would recomend a push feed M70 if someone is looking for a cheaper rifle to start out with.

hornady has come through.these are all max loads. 139 BTSP- RL22 90.4 3400-H-4831 87.5 3350-IMR 7828 89.1 3400-H 1000 96.4 3500 154 BTSP-RL 22 86.1 3250-IMR 7828 85.5 3200-RL 25 93.7 3300-AA 8700 102.8 3300 162 BTSP-RL 22 85.9 3250-H 4831 86.1 3200-RL 25 91.3 3300 175 SP-RL 22 82.1 3050-RL 25 88.6 3100-AA 8700 97.5 3050 the people at hornady mailed me this data, hand written.the data was made using a factory 700 bdlss with a 26 inch bbl.the people at hornady were the most cooperative of the 5 or 6 places i called about new data for this round.and they did what they said by mailing me the data.hope to find a good load somewhere out of it. the load we settled on was with RL25 and the 154 hornady at 3405.as you can figure it is a little over what they say,but this gun takes it quit well. wish saeed would try this one out. Eric I thank you and everyone else for their response. I thought Hornady and others were a little light. I get these velocities from my STW, but I have a 27" barrel and my loads are a little warm. My STW weighs right at 12# wich is a little heavy to carry around. I am thinking the Savage in nthe 7RUM with the 26" barrel weighing 7.75# would fit the bill as far as accuracy, cost, weight, and velocity. All I load is the 150nos. bt and 160par, but am going to the 175 which I have never loaded in my mag. or STW. Again I want to thank everyone. fws
