Anybody have much success with winchester 80gn bulk pack proj's and their 243? Most of my shooting is goats, roos and only the odd donkey or camel.Usually when I go to shoot camels or donkeys, I'll load some 100gn tiapans and they seem to work quite well but I'm after a fairly accurate load for club use as well as goats and roos. When it comes to club use , the premium bullets are good but expensive so I am looking at a cheaper alternative.
Any thoughts???

Trev-

Back years ago, I had a girlfriend that was interested in learning to shoot. I figured I'd start easy & cheap till we saw what she was going to do with it.

I bought a bunch of the Remington 80 grains in a 500 piece bulk pack to load for her.

I was very pleasantly surprised at how well they shot. I don't remember the load (it's been close to 15 years..), but it would've probably been over IMR 4350 (or possibly 4064). I'm sure there are many good loads for it that guys will suggest.

On a related note, Remington used to load an 80 grain HP in their factory 6mm Rem ammo. That stuff would literally shoot one-hole groups out of my rifle!

80/85gn pills were my preferred hunting loads, very hard hitting on fauna and most ferals. Nothing hit ever had to be chased and second shots could be taken where the animal fell when needed. Replaced my 243 with a 6.5x55 because I found some rams (steel) that laughed at 100gn 243s. Probably use 100/120 pills in the swede for hunting, when I get a leave pass.

Sir: No Winchester 80 grain experience, but maybe the following will help. I shot the Remington bulk 80 grain psp in two different 243s. One liked the bullet, one did not. They were absolutely devastating on 5-10 pound varmints. They are probably too explosive for anything the size of your odd donkey or big roo. I offer this to assist your "good but cheap" search. Try the Sperr 80 grain hot core. If you can find a well discounted source, sometimes the price difference between the bulk remington/winchesters and the speers gets down to 1 1/2 cents a bullet. The speers will work both for large and small, and I believe they are generally more accurate than the red or green bullets. Good shooting.
