The gunsmith gave me some to break in the new barrel with. I patched between shots, just as the directions stated, and am not at all impressed. The velocity got higher for a while, but then dropped off with every round. I finally fired the last 4 rounds without it, and gained a total of 200fps (as would be expected with the resulting higher pressures).

Is there any result from this product that is desirable? Does it give any barrel cleaning/wear advantage?

Thanks

I am not real familiar with barrel break in as I never do it. All my rifles have been bought used. But I would think once your velocity started going down you had lapped the roughness out of the barrel. That is what break in is about right? Clean between shots so as you remove or smooth out the barrel no fouling, ect. gets trapped? My guess would be that during break in you should see velocity drop untill it levels out. At that point the break in is probably complete. Don't take my word for it though it is a guess.

JustC,
I grabbed a bottle of gun juice on my last order from Brownells and have been playing with it. I come from the school of thought that barrel and bullet treatments cause more consistency problems than they solve so I have not put any down the barrel. I have put it on a couple bolts and I like the way it slicks things up without leaving a wet film. I put it on by heating the bolt till it was warm and then let dry. It has held up for over 100 rounds (.308)and fouling just slides right off with a paper towel.

Todd C, so far this evening while patching the bore after the 2nd set of 10 bullets, the fouling seems to be far less than the first 10rnds. I am starting to think that it is actually starting to help keep the fouling down. I will run it after each round for the next 10rnds and see what developes.
