I have been loading with our local powder S341 (much like IMR4895 )medium burning ball powder, with original barnex X bullets, with factory ammo I get very good velocity, with Geco 255 grain ammo I get 2500 fps, on box it says 2525, PMP advice 2280, I get 2310, all seems to be up there, but wit 286 grain X and Solids I get on 2220 fps, with a max charge witch claimed by Somchem to go 2380 fps, I loaded some 250 grain bullets to some scripts I saw with 63 grain s341, suppose to get 2600 fps, I only get 2335 fps Pressure was mild with this load, can it be that it don't like this power or what, when I fired another monolithic hollow point 286 grain which I loaded for my other 9.3 I got 2340 with the same charge why did I loose so much speed in the 250 grain bullets. I have not tried to reload any other bullet yet, I was hoping to get decent about 2350 fps out of the 286 grains and about 2550 with the 250 grains for longer shots. If I change to the more bulky s335 I get space problems, any advice.

Flip, My son uses S335 in his 9.3, for 2350fps using 286gr Rhino's. I wouldn't want to take a flyer at his charges, but I do know it's a full load, if not slightly compressed. Have you tried S355?

In my previous rifle I used S335, with X type bullets it was heavy compressed, I was little worried of getting unreliable ignition due to compression, I got good velocity with s341 in my other gun will have to try s335, S355 takes up too much space with same velocity as S335 Thanks

I wouldn't hesitate at all to work up a load of heavily compressed powder using a magnum primer and wouldn't worry about ignition. This is a common practice for maximum performance from many cartridges and it just plain works! /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery."
