I'm a life long reloader but, have never put together a reduced load.
Looking for some info in Speer #10 I came across a lot of cartridges I load for using SR4759 as a reduced load.
I would love to do this for my 30-06. I have a lot of 125 and 130 gr bullets.
I also see 6mm Rem using IMR4198 for reduced loads.
I'm thinking paper punching at 50 yards would be a lotta fun.

Has any one any experience with these loads?
How did they shoot?

I looked at Hodgdon site and saw the Trailboss loads. It looks like Speer is now using Accurate 5744 for reduced loads.
I still want to use SR4759 for reduced loads. (30.06)
My Speer #10 lists 20grs SR4759 with a 150gr bullet as a starting load. Firearm used Rem. 700
My Lyman Pistol & Revolver lists 30grs SR4759 with a 150gr bullet as a starting load. Firearm used T/C Encore.
Thats a big difference!
I'm not getting this reduced load thing. But I want to do it.
Thanks
Michael

I've used quite a bit of it in lots of chamberings. I use the data listed in my Speer book (#11). Using 4759 is just like any other powder, start low and work up.

And don't forget the Hodgdon Site has an H4895 Rule for 60% of a MAX Load, which works real well. You can find the info for using it at their Site.

Plenty of Factory Tested totally SAFE Down-Load options are available.

read the below and you will see that with SR 4759 you asked about; there is a good load in the 30 bore and the 150 around 25 somewhere.

.30-40 Krag - 150 grain Speer SP bullet, 24.5 grains SR 4759 powder, WLR primer, Winchester case. COL 3.000". MV 2080 fps in 25.5" test barrel. MAP 37,300 CUP. (Based on the IMR Smokeless Powder Reloader's Guide, April 2004.)

.300 Savage - 150 grain Speer SP bullet, 23.5 grains SR 4759 powder, Rem. 9 1/2 primer, Remington case. COL 2.600". MV 2095 fps in 24" test barrel. MAP 45,500 CUP. (Based on the IMR Smokeless Powder Reloader's Guide, April 2004.)

.308 Winchester - 130 grain Speer HP bullet, 29.0 grains of IMR 4198 powder, CCI 200 primer, IMI case. COL 2.615". MV 2185 fps in 22" barrel. (Based on the Speer Reloading Manual No. 13.)

.308 Winchester - 150 grain Speer RN bullet, 25.0 grains of SR 4759 powder, CCI 200 primer, IMI case. COL 2.490". MV 1925 fps in 22" barrel. (Based on the Speer Reloading Manual No. 13.)

.30-06 Springfield - 165 grain Speer SP bullet, 25.0 grains of SR 4759 powder, CCI 200 primer, Win. case. COL 3.250". MV 1941 fps in 22" barrel. (Based on the Speer Reloading Manual No. 13.)
Best regards,
dmw

I have had very good accuracy with the Speer 100gr Plinker and the 110gr bullets in the 308 with 17 to 19gr of SR4756.

Also in my 375 H&H 40gr of SR4756 and the Hornady 220gr FP shoots very accurate at 100 yards, and dulicates the ower of the 375 Winchester lever cartridge.
Hits the same place at 100 yards as full power 300gr Federal ammo, and 270 Remington RNSP.

Remember the golden rule -'never use any load data that you haven't seen in a reputable manafacturorsload book (and now website'

By all means use what you see on the web as a pointer of where to look but do check it.

I've had great luck with SR4759 from the speer manual. H4895 loads down to 60% are also great.

Check always fro a possible double load (which might blow apart your rifle), then check again and do it once mor ebefore seating the bullet.

And yes, this is meant seriously, bad accidents had happened with reduced loads due to that reason even though mostly with similar but denser powders like N110.

Use the Lyman, Speer and IMR data to cross check when possible.
Then cross check with 4227 and 5744.
Sooner or later you will figure out what makes sense.

Same data from the Speer book with a couple of .243's.

I used it quite a few years ago with some 90gr FMJ's, and 85gr Nosler Solid Bases, for turkey hunting, and pest control. The load was 1/2 MOA at 50yds and hardly made much noise at all from my 22" barrels. Never got to try it on the turkeys though they had a notion to leave the area once the season opened.

On the pest however it was a ton of fun. We had quite a few raccoons, and similar sized critters which would regularly crawl up and destroy the feeders and storage bin on our lease. These loads dispatched them quietly and was accurate enough to pick them off as they went up the feeder legs without damage to the feeder or disrupting the whole area while hunting. Nice thing was the FMJ did very little damage to the pelts which were sold for a little extra adult beverage funding. The Nosler's would expand about half way at around 20 - 30yds but after that they were more or less like the FMJ and simply penciled on through.

I use 25 grains with a tuft of dacron under a 405 cast bullet in my 45-70. Accurate and mild.

Seafire Jr wanted to have a 30/06 so I gave him a Browning A Bolt in that caliber I bought when he was born.. so I thought it fitting he 'inherited' it...

however he could not take full power 06 loads...

so for deer season the last 3 years.. he has carried a load of 25 to 30 grains of SR 4759 ( increased a little each year as he gets older)...and a 125 grain Ballistic Tip...for range shooting we have used Speer 125 grain TNTs which are super accurate..

the 30 grain load was from the old IMR Brown Sheet...that still was a little under max load listed...
this season he is moving up to a 4198 load with a 150 grain Ballistic Tip..

OH! and SR 4759 needs no filler in an 06 case..

filler will only increase pressures!!!!...
