Has anybody worked up any loads in the .308 Winchester with 150 grain bullets and Accurate Powder's 5744? Their website does list 150 grain bullet data, but it is for lead bullets and I'm not sure how jacketed would compare. What kind of velocities were you getting? Thanks for the help.

What a totally inappropriate combination of powder and bullet. I have used AA5744 with cast bullets in the 30-06, 303 Brit and 45/70 with wonderful results. It was developed for people who wanted to use smokeless powder in the old big black powder cartridges. And at pressure levels that did not blow the breech block. If you want to shoot 150 jacketed bullets in a 308, go get some IMR 4895 or H4895. The 308 cartridge was developed with IMR 4895 and that powder is still one of the best with bullet weights from 150 to 175 grains in that cartridge. Leave the cast bullet powders with the cast bullets.

Check out IMR's SR4759 data. It is a powder of the same approximate burn rate and was intended for cast bullets. Speer lists data for 4759 and so does IMR- for jacketed bullets. I am sure that 5744 can be used the same way. I suspect that Accurate Arms will provide you with jacketed bullet data if you ask.

Here are some loads for "cast bullets,150grain) in the 308. Unique-10.0grs=1412fps,2400-16.0grs=1457fps,4227-15.0grs=1461fps,4759-15.0grs=1355fps,4198-24.0grs=1765. Also, very advisable not to load any cast lead bullets andy faster than 1900fps.vangunsmith

I guess I wasn't too clear in my original post. I am looking for a reduced load, and I have some 5744 on hand right now, so figured I'd see if anyone has had success with this combination. I do have other loads for the .308 worked up, but I will be shooting with new shooters in a few weeks and was looking for something that I could put together to step them up with components I have on hand. Thanks all for the help.
