Hey all, My nephew who is 8 and of smaller stature is at the maturity level to shoot and be safe. Due to his smaller size, I wish to have him continue with a .22, but have purchased a Ruger compact .243 for him. Does anyone have a reduced load recipe they can recommend? I've checked online with Nosler, Speer etc. and can't find such a load. Thank you

15 grains Trailboss is listed for a 100 grain bullet in the Hodgden manual. I used it in the 243 this weekend with 80 grain Nosler ballistic tips and it is a mild load. Not recoil less but definitely milder that full power loads. -------------------- THANOS WAS RIGHT!

You can use any of the shotgun or pistol powders like Green Dot, Unique etc. Anything from 1015 grains works great. In fact, anytime I want a reduced load - in any caliber - Unique is my preferred powder, as it is very bulky, and works great. We use it even in our 577 T.Rex.

18 grains IMR 4198 under a 100-grain flat base bullet works fine in 6mm Rem. Should do well in .243 Win. _______________________

Treatise on using pistol powders in rifle cartridges. A good read for looneys. http://www.gmdr.com/lever/pistolpowi.htm I personally use Blue Dot, Unique, W-231 and Trail Boss. Been playing with .357 pistol bullets in my .35 Whelen.

edit. Old age is a high price to pay for maturity!!! Some never pay and some pay and never reap the reward. Wisdom comes with age! Sometimes age comes alone..

Yup, Another fan of Seafire's Blue Dot loads. Have use them extensively in 243 and 22-250 with great results. Before the flames start- I am aware of the controversy of using BD in bottlenecked rifle cartridges but I am a big boy and take responsibility for what I do. I will not post load recipes but if you are interested find some older Seafire posts and go from there. Gary

Thank you. I would like to see any of us shooting a gun that uses 1015 grains of powder as a reduced load
