Once fired .308 Federal brass deprimed and tumbled in SS media, sized using Whidden FL bushing dies with Redding 333 bushing. Bushing floats several thousandths. Shoulder bumped .003" per Whidden shoulder gauge. This leaves a slight burr on the outside of the case mouth such that some brass will not pass through the mouth of the trimmer. Those that do vary in overall length by 010" after trimming. I don't think the trimmer is responsible as it registers off the shoulder. I use Imperial lube sparingly and a Forrester Press. I am sure there is a logical explanation. Thanks!

After sizing and before trimming , what is the OAL and what is the length at the shoulder? Curious as to why measure off the shoulder for trimming? As usual just my $.02 Paul K

After sizing OAL varies from 2.010 to 2.021. Brass was fired from either a JP Gas Gun or a factory Rem 700 barrels with a recut SAAMI chamber. Referencing of the shoulder keeps the necks at a consistent length providing equal neck tension. If sizing is done appropriately the rim to shoulder dimension should be consistent. Giraud is one of the most highly regarded trimmers on the market. I think I may have discovered my error. I'll update as as soon as I can verify this.

To be honest never heard of it. After looking it up for sure one of the most expensive. Shot BR for years. Everyone I shot with used one a Forster type. Brass sized to your chamber shoulder is in the same spot measured from your base neck is the same length. But heck what do I know. As usual just my $.02 Paul K
