I recently acquired a box of Barnes 150 gr. XBT. I would like to try them in my Ruger 280. The buddy who swapped them to me said you can't load them as hot as the newer TSX with the rings to reduce pressure. I have do not have a Barne's Manual and have searched extensively and can't find any data for the 280 using this bullet. I have Nosler, Speer, Hodgden manuals. Could anyone furnish me with some data for this bullet. Don't want to blow up a gun with over pressure! I have a good selction of powders in the range of H-414, 4350, RL-19 and both 4831's. I just plan to use it mainly on deer and hogs of all sizes. I would like to run it at about 2750 - 2800 in my 22 inch barrel. I also have a 7-08 and 7x57 but use lighter bullets in them. Seems like my .280 handles the 150's a little better. Thanks for any info. Merg

Your buddy is right...they will make a tad more pressure than others the same wt. What I recomend is that you look at data for 162 grain bullets and use that and work with a chrono. I can't believe you would get into trouble starting a grain or two under max 162 data.
