I am going to work up a load for my 300 Win. Mag. using 180 gr. bullets. Which is the best powder H-4831 are H- 4350?

I had best results with H-4831 in my 300 Win. I like the new H-4831 short-cut even better.

I've had luck with the H4831 and it does shoot well. My Preference with the 180+ group in the 300 win mag is Rl22 and H1000 they just shot better for me with the loads I've shot.

RL22: for accuracy and Velocity
H1000: for accuracy

Of the 2 that you mention, try H-4831. If you want the best use RL-25

RL22 for 180 gr

H1000 for 200 gr

To answer your question I must know which brand of bullets you want to shoot.

I don't routinely use 180's in my .300 Winchester, I leave them for the .30-06.

For 180's I would suggest:
WMR From 61.3 grains to 75.8 grains
Winchester WLR Primer

H4831 gives me the best results out of the two you mentioned.

I shot IMR-7828 for years with my .300 Winny, then discovered RL-22 and got better accuracy and more speed. Now my rifle pisses and moans if I use anything but RL-22 and Fed 210M primers. 180 grain Nosler Partition or North Fork at 3100 fps. Good shooting.

Steve. I too would go for WMR wwith 180 gr. bullets in the .300 Win. Mag. My .300 has a 26" barel and 74.0 gr. of WMR gives 3050 FPS average from the rifle with good groups. (1" or less at 100 yards.)
If you have some, try 69.0 gr. of WMR with the 200 gr. Speer Hot-core. I got 2950 FPS wwoth .75" groups with that load from my rifle.
However, unless you have a good supply, there ain't any more being made. Winchester, in their infinite (????) wisdom decided about five years ago to drop it. I found a good supply in Southern California and bought three 8# cans of th stuff. I've been playing with it in the .243, 6mm Rem., .257 Bob, .270 Win. as well as the .300 Win. Accuracy has been quite good and one of these days I'll chronograph the loads in those rifles. What I did find strange is I haven't found any data for use in the 30-06. One would think that if it works so well in the .270 and .280, that is would also work in the 06. Winchester only gave data for 200 and 220 gr. bullets. Most of the loading manuals gave the powder short shrift, with I believe only Hornady and Nosler having most of the data available. Seems like most of the gun rag "egg-spurts" ignored it as well.
What a shame that a good powder like WMR disappears from the market. Based on the results I got in three rifles in .300 Win. Mag. alone, that one should still be around. Who knows?

I didn't find WMR all that great in the .30-06, however I do have a couple of loads that work...

175 to 180's:
WMR From 55.0 grains to 59.0 grains
Winchester WLR Primer

200's:
WMR From 50.0 grains to 57.5 grains
Winchester WLR Primer

220 to 225's:
WMR From 47.3 grains to 57.8 grains
Winchester WLR Primer

250's:
WMR From 50.0 grains to 54.0 grains
Winchester WLR Primer

Of the two powders in question, I also like the H4831SC the best. My question is, I like the Fed 215M primers in the Win 300, does anybody else share this view? Just curious.

I have had great results using 70.5 grs. of H-4350 and a 180 gr Nosler BT. I am currently working up a load using Retumbo and a 200 gr. Accubond. Stay tuned for results.

woody7 ----- I have used the 215M primer for many loads, but when I do the group goes from one hole or near to 1.5 inchs consistently. On all my other magnum loads I do use the 215M primers, except my 270 WSM, it also likes the 210M, go figure. Good shooting.

Phurley5, thanks for the info. I never thought to test the 210M vs the 215M primers. I assumed the 210's would be too cool of a primer with the heavy loads of slow powder. When I work on larger capacity loads I usually compare the CCI 250, WLR, Fed215 primers.

Woody7 ----- I also shot many different primers in the past, then I noticed that my accuracy load were normally Federal primers. Now I keep it simple and use only the Federal Match primers. The Match are probably not necessary but I might be a little superstitous after all these years and I don't want to change something that works. In the last few years shooting thousands of rounds I have not had a single hang fire. Good shooting.

Phurley5, I usually start with the Federal primers also. I usually get my best results with either the 210 or the 215's. I was susprised with the 210's for the 300WM. Thanks again.
