Question about 375 H/H Sizing Die?

My 375 dies are from Lee. I recently went to reload some 375 rounds (once fired brass, I loaded them new) after decapping and full length sizing, primer, powder, etc. I went to seat the new bullets (TSX 235 grain, 375) and the bullet would not sit in the case mouth, it would practically fall into the case. What gives? I have never had this happen before, is this a sizing die problem? Should I send the dies back to Lee?

Some questions: a) have you ever used the dies before and did they work with 1) the same heads or 2) different heads; b) have you miked the heads to be sure they are, in fact, .375.

I ordered a set of dies from RCBS some year sago to reload .350 Rigby No. 2 and just the same thing happened: the seating die produced brass too big for the head. Sent RCBS three fired rounds and they sent me a new die (which I paid for). Works now.

If your heads are proper size and this is the first use of the .375 dies, give Lee a call and see what they recommend.

Regards

Tim thanks for the response, I have not miked the heads (bullets) to see if they are 375, I did load some in some unfired new cases and had no problems. This is the first time I used the sizing dies, I had only previously used the seating die to seat bullets in the new brass.

If it is a FL die you are using to size, measure your expander ball. It must be .004-.005" or so below the diameter of the bullet.

Since you are using Lee dies, and just in case you are using a Lee Collet die - use the search funtion here to find a million posts discussing that die, and how to increase neck tension.

Just a question, Is there a chance that you are using a collet die from Lee?

As stated before, check the diameter of the expander ball, it is probably too big. I had a similar situation with my 7TCU where you could some times remove the bullets from the loaded rounds with your fingers. Reducing the size of the expander fixed the problem. Had the opposite problem with a 375H&H die. It was resizing the neck diameter too small and overworking the brass to where the cases would split at the neck after 2 reloads. Sent five fired cases to RCBS and they fixed it for free.
